Just wondering how many of you are using this type of vehicle as a tow vehicle, so that you always have access to a lift.

I am in the process of locating one for my company, it has always been something that i could use but never purchased, instead like most of us i would just rent one as needed.

I dont have a need for one , but I have thought about it and it just does not seem like a good idea for us and what we do , more of a hassle

How does it become a hassle for you as a tow vehicle? I would think that it would only be an asset, you can push roof cleaning with no pressure and no walking on roofs, also doing the real steep roofs and the facade on the buildings.

I have been thinking about this for awhile now and i am going to pull the trigger on one, hell it cant hurt to have another tow vehicle with a lift as a bonus..

I had thought of buying one of those before I purchased my 60' Bucket Truck.

Those are typically from 30'-45' and you can only boom out to the side like 20' at the most.

If you are almost up against the house, you can reach only maybe 20' out from that point in an arc so you would have to move it several times to only do the front part of a house, not even 1/2 of most of the homes here.

How are you going to do the back part, most of those tow-behinds will not go through the gates of most houses here.

That and many more reasons are why I purchased a 60' Bucket Truck.

I can boom out 50' from where the back of the truck is and with the Bandit, I can reach most of the larger houses from the front. One large slate house I had to drive to the back of the house which was on a golf course so I stayed in the rough and with the fence around 20' from the edge of the house, I still had enough extension on the truck to get the job done.

This Bucket Truck will allow the boom to go straight out to the sides and all around, most of them will to up and out some to the sides. You have to look for that special feature, it is only on maybe 10% of the Bucket Trucks out there.

I have done a couple buildings, many roofs, and let my dad and brother use it for tree trimming and taking down trees. It sure makes life better around here with it's many uses.

I am not talking about a tow behind lift. I am talking about a F450 ford truck with a lift bucket in the bed, and use that truck to tow my trailer so i have the lift with me at all times. The lift in most of these trucks are 35ft, which is all i need.

I'd thought about getting one in the past after seeing another PW company with one but I never thought I'd use it enough to make it worthwhile. However, the past month alone I've rented 80' and 60' lifts almost every week for some commercial work that I'm doing.

Who sells trucks with a 60' artic. bucket on them?

Just about every manufacturer out there, you just have to look at the truck and see if it has the features you are looking for. I spent a couple months looking online, in magazines, websites, had people looking for me, etc....

Some of the brands are Altec, ReachAll, HI Ranger, etc....

Some of the tree trimmer's chipper trucks will work also but I did not want to buy one of those and have to cut the box off as it would get in the way for a couple of my uses.

There are places that have 20-80 of them sitting there, ready to be purchased. You just need to go look and pick one that you like.

I forgot to mention that my Bucket Truck does not have a hitch to tow anything right now, I am thinking of having my welder add one so I can tow my trailer or truck or anything I can thing of. hahaha

Nick, I know some people who sell bucket trucks near here in Tampa on HWY 301.
They are my customers, if I can help let me know :)
Chris

Get me a phone number and a name..i am ready to buy ASAP..I have been watching a few nice ones on E-Bay but there up in PA and have no A/C..

Thanks Chris..

There are a few large lots in Florida and Alabama. Russ could get you the name of those in Alababa, they are between Birmingham and Prattville on the highway.

The others, do a search for Bucket Trucks, Lift Trucks, etc.... There are a lot of places out there and then the Big Truck Trader, Commercial Equipment Trader and also Arbor Age, and a couple other tree industry mags that have trucks for sale in them.

Another good place to look, would be you local power co. They put these trucks up for bid from time to time. These trucks are usually in fairly good shape.

Thanks guys for the info.. I kind of have in mind what i want, it's more like a F450 with a rear loader lift, they run off an inverter powered by a generator, no PTO so you can move the truck while your in the lift. Some of these tree companies and utility co, have some nice trucks, but there huge and overkill for my needs.

I do like the shorter bucket trucks that are on the F-450 frame, they would be great for some of the smaller jobs.

After I pay for this big one I just bought, it should take 1-1.5 years, I will probably get a smaller one for some of the little jobs I do so it will be a little faster since I will not need the big truck.

There are so many things that you can use these trucks for, not just washing buildings and store fronts.

yeah you can change light bulbs ! hahaha

I was actually hoping to change out light bulbs, they pay good and the work is easy. I had learned a lot from mr. Chuck D. about it, he has experience doing that with his electrician friend.

The only problem I am running into is that most places here have yearly contracts that they can't break but I am still looking.

If it was me I would stay away from the inverter trucks, unless they are verifiably well proven. I had a crane, which is the same mechanicals that was nothing but problems, and it was brand new.

My 60' Reach Bucket Truck is all Hydraulic run off the pto.

I am not crazy about the idea of a bucket truck run off an inverter, I would rather it be hydraulic.
