internet hits and leads

Hey folks:

How about leads/hits on the internet during typical slow months? We have a good friend that will put us up a web site and for 150 per month put us up and promise us so many hits a month. This is with a major company I'm not for sure which one however I could find out. The thing is it will take 30 days to get it up and active which will be into November. Nov-Dec-Jan-Feb are typically VERY slow for us doing exterior remodeling (windows-doors-siding-some pressure washing). We would love to have some work during this period, windows in particular however I am aprehensive about actually getting any work during this period even off the internet. Can you give me some feedback on this??????? Do you get leads during this period in your experience??

Please tell me it's not everycontractor.com ! Lead services, particularly the "x bucks per month guaranteed leads" are scary. At least with "pay as you get them" companies, ie, Service Magic you don't pay for a lead until you get one.

Based on Celeste's advice that was posted previoulsy on a message board, I made our Service Magic account very specific and I am still getting dead end leads, window shoppers, and the like. Has not worked out so well for us, but at least it is a pay per lead not a monthly fee. Seems like I spend more time working on refunds for false leads than actually landing leads from them. I think they need to redo the website to drive people more directly to what the want or need.

Celeste, This guy sells phone book advertising with ATT so I believe the internet service is with them thru search engines. I have not really nailed anything down with him because of the time of year we are entering into I'm not really looking forward to the 150 month during slow season unless there is benefit that I am not understanding. I should probably be getting more details from him just to be carrying on an intelligent conversation. How do you like Service Magic? Any other internet angles you would recommend with your experience?

Give me a call dude and I will get you straight on how internet marketing can work and how most paid services are scams.
 
Not dodging the Service Magic question - I've said my piece :))) about them before.

I will tell you that the stupid yellow page people that design your keywords, make a little "private" site/ad for you to route clicks for $$ per month - RUN - do not pass go, do not send $200. Been there, done that too - it was bad, bad, bad.

Just call Michael.

Yeah Michaels got the scoop on how the whole thing comes down. He gave me some homework so better get to it and get a site up.
