8 GPM Nozzle with 10 GPM Pump

I am contemplating switching to 10 GPM this season. I have a rotating nozzle that I use about a handful of times a year,..it is rated for 8 GPM. Will using this nozzle, or any other nozzle that is a bit smaller hurt the pump in any way? I don't care about the flow loss with the 8 GPM rotating nozzle,..These larger orifice rotating nozzles are pricey so if I could use my current nozzle that would be a plus.

From what I've read it comes down to which unloader type that is used. If using a trapped pressure the flow will just by-pass,..but if using a flow actuated it will make the pump over pressurize?

Thanks,
Jeff

I've ordered rebuild kits for mine before, they come in different sizes.
Just give Russ a call and tell him what you have and what you need and he will hook you up.

The more I read about this the more I learned. So,.I'm just gonna use the 8 GPM nozzle. These larger pumps shove water through soap injectors all day long,..and the orifice is really small..and what doesn't go through the nozzle goes into by-pass,..will react the same way with the nozzle. All the more I use the rotating nozzle it's not gonna be an issue. I'll do an initial PSI check and go from there. The worse I'd have to do is back the throttle down a tad.

With a trapped pressure unloader you should be fine but with a flow unloader you might make it cycle

Thanks Ben,,yea,..I have the Giant Orange spring unloader,..and it's trapped pressure.

I use all different size nozzles with the orange spring. Russ told me they can take a beating and they do. They start to go every 6 months on me because I do beat the hell out of them. Got 5 on a shelf. Going to rebuild them one day. Jeff I pm'd you but your mailbox is full.

Thanks Ralph,..I just cleared the messages. So if you would please send me the PM again I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jeff
