Chemical hose on a reel.. Will the fittings last?

So I got this reel as a cheepy from northern, and originally planned on just using to hold my chem hose and just d/c it from the shurflo after each use and roll it up rather than hand jack it. But then I started wondering... Why not just plum it and actually have it running through the fittings... But I know it's going to tear up and start leaking... But how are you guys able to use reels for your chem hose? Can a cox reel REALLY make a difference in fittings that will stand up to the SH...

I dunno.. I guess I'm just looking to hear your thoughts.

awesome. look forward to meeting some of you guys. ill be in my company shirt, so look for me if i dont meet you in passing

I have several reels that I use but don't run the water or chems through the swivel. Still saves me a bunch of time compared to hand rolling, eliminates the headache of swivel leaks and restrictions, and isn't that hard to manually connect and disconnect the hose to the respective fitting every time. I'll use a swivel till it goes out then I just bypass it instead of replacing it.

I do the same. I may actually plumb my supply real to the tank, but currently I just pull the amount of hose from the reel then connect it to my float valve. I do not think I will ever run my pressure or chem line through the reels.

If you want a reel that you CAN run chem thru, check the mfg and distributor forum for our Hannay manifold-less reels. A manifold, even stainless, will fail. The stronger the chem, the faster it will happen. Rinsing prolongs the inevitable, but it is inevitable. In roof cleaning, the chem strength is so strong that a lot of guys run reel-less and that is a massive pain with several hundred feet of BIG, heavy hose. By eliminating the manifold and all metal in the fluid stream, you can keep things hooked up.

I get a couple of years out of the stainless manifold. I use a stainless straight swivel from Kim supply around 39 bucks. 6 to 8 months. Works

Those cheap hose reel swivels are not even mediocre swivels, they will not last long with water, chemicals will eat them up and it will be hard to find a replacement if at all as those are made in china.

If you use the reel for storage only (best bet) then make sure to flush out the reel/hoses because when you start rolling up the hoses, water/chemicals will be slinging out of the end of the hose as you roll them up and you don't want a face/body covered with chemicals whether it is you, family or a helper depending on how you secure it to the reel for rolling it up.

You will get several years out of those if for storage only and keep them out of the weather, if they get rained on, figure 2 years or less before they completely rust out and fall apart.
