trailer build - tandem or single axle?

Is that used or new? Must be a good deal to make that drive. Vince give me a call when you're in town if you have a few, maybe grab a bite and talk shop.

It's a new trailer. I'm saving over $1,000 by getting it in Tucson. I'll make it into Tucson late Tuesday night and then pick up the trailer Wednesday morning. I'll give you a call at around 10 Wednesday morning and we can meet up for breakfast Tom.

Are you going to be in LA Monday Vince?

I'll be working near the Children's Hospital in L.A tomorrow night at about 9 and then Monday night at about midnight to finish up that job. If you come through CA 60 going to LA then you come right through Diamond Bar.

I have to go out there next week, haven't set which days yet

Sounds great Tony, just call, text or PM me when you find out. I know either Thursday or Friday I'll be down in San Diego at Jerry's shop.

Sounds great. Hopefully my truck doesn't end up on the back of a wrecker while I'm on my trip to Tucson. Everyone knows how unreliable my truck is.

The nice thing is Ford finally stepped up and gave me the 21 component, 200,000 mile extended warranty as well as free road side service on my truck for free just last week. I'll most likely just keep this truck as back up or 2nd truck when I get the new one at the end of the year.

Good for Ford. But better for Vince. They owe ya!

I talked to a heavy duty mechanic the other day, he says all the local "Cat mechanics(Heavy equipment)" with the new f550's are all on there second or third diesel engine with less then 20,000 miles on the clocks. Don't know if it's the bigger size trucks, or that they run the things all day, but I wouldn't have much faith in those engines after hearing that....

Wow! That's really ugly!

I think ford should have stuck with International making the diesel engines for the trucks, I don't think I have heard anything bad about the International engines but tons about ford 6.0 and other diesel engines.

If I recall correctly, the last Corn Binder diesels were bad and Ford sued them over it. That's when Ford started building there own.

It seems I never see anything bad about GM's Duramax diesel. Are they made by Isuzu?

Some pics of what I got.. And the build so far..

I didn't see the engine stuff earlier, International is the one that designed and built the 6.0 diesel for the Ford's. The 6.0's biggest flaw was the fuel system in which Cat used in many of their smaller engines 3116, and 3126 that were used in a lot of 5 ton trucks. These had the same problems the Ford's 6.0's had, but they didn't happen until much later in their lives, but it was a greater expense to fix ($15-20k for an engine rebuild).

I don't think the latest Duramax's are isuzu, but I think the design is fairly similar.

Just about every big rig you see on the road, and most heavy equipment you see working all use 6 cylinder diesel engines. Ford and GM have both decided that 8 cylinders is the way to go, I don't know why they continue to try and reinvent the wheel here.

In terms of the trailer, from the pictures everything looks simple and clean. Do you have the pwasher at the front? Are you planning on running with an empty tank? Just wondering for weights, would hate to see you do all the work and find out that the weight is too far back and have the trailer swaying badly.

Hey Rance,..that's a good idea,..using space that would most likely never be used for anything else is always a plus.

On another note,..I never see pictures of wash guys with aluminum open trailers,...will they just not handle the stress,.or what is the reason? I realize chemicals can be tough on them especially hypochlorite. But they can also be painted to help protect,..and they'd be lighter and rust free than steel.
