serious spark pug issues.

Has anyone ever encountered this with their plugs. This plug is ten days old with less than 500 miles on it. It is the #1 plug in a Chevrolet 350 with 220.000 miles. this is the third time I replaced this plug in two months. it has gotten worse every time. anyone?????????????? spark plug.jpg
 
Does it use oil too? I had a 305 in a 79 Caprice that did the same thing...it used oil too. I'd go to a buddy who worked on cars and scavenge the used plugs after he did a tune up on a Chevy. Saw no sense wasting money buying plugs by the dozen.
 
yes it does use the oil. about a quart a month. never ever realized where it went. until now. I still would like to know what's actually happening to make the plug look like that.
 
Rings or a head gasket. Fortunately they are cheap because so many are made...
 
some info.....preignition can result from hot spots in the combustion chamber, over-advanced ignition timing, lean air/fuel mixtures, defective distributor advance mechanisms, deposits in the combustion chamber, defective cylinderhead or manifold gaskets. To avoid pre-ignition, a thorough tune-up is required before installing new spark plugs.


start with a compression test and work your way back...id keep in mind if thats melted several plugs im sure there is debris floating around in there that could be gouging out the cylinder walls, messing with the piston, rings, valves. has it been knocking at all?

knocks for 3 minutes in the morning when I first start it up. after that its fine. Did a complete tune up on it last November. drove it to Georgia in April and had to change those 2 plugs when I got there. I changed them again a month ago, and then changed them again 4 days ago.o that's 4 times since November.
