Doing a driveway demo next week...

The soap in the mix leaves ZERO film and no, the concrete does not become slippery. We Do a zillion driveways and sidewalks a year this way.

Ditto...when we leave all you see is a clean driveway with some little soap bubbles that disappear.

Caustic soda, it is either beads or flakes.

I prefer the beads as there is a lot less dust, with the flakes there is way, way more dust that you don't want to get into your eyes, nose, mouth or on your skin as the moisture in the air can activate the caustic soda and you are now getting chemical burns.

It is really personal preference, that is up to you.

When you pour the beads into your liquid (never liquid onto the beads), pour the beads very slowly and don't mix up too much at a time and stir.

Depending on how much you mix, the liquid will get warm or hot or very hot so don't use thin plastic containers, use the thicker plastic containers, not metal.

Great advice on the caustic Chris You have to be careful with it. You probably dont need to add the caustic if you use your roof pump and spray a 50/50 mix. if you down stream use straight 12% for your mix.

Greg is right, I never use caustic on residential (unless they have a greasy barbecue mess on a patio/pool deck)... dwell time, surfactant and multiple coats is how I would approach residential.

That is a great point, I also never had to use caustic in a residential job either, just on commercial jobs.

Roof pump 50/50 (1:1 ratio) vs DSing @ full strength. DSer is 20% making the final ration 4:1. Why such a drastic difference? I thought the mix should be calculated by the amount hitting the surface. Am I missing something?

Did you test your downstream injector?

I don't go by what the manufacturers say the downstream injector will pull, there are too many variables like restrictions in your system from the pump to the gun, size of hose, length of hose, size of orifice in the injector, size of gun (gpm), size of machine (gpm and psi), etc.....

Do a test to see how much chemical is pulled in a minute using your regular setup and then your setup with additional hose if you need additional hose on some jobs and do the math.

I use a measuring pitcher full of water to the gallon mark and when I pull the trigger, I am looking at my watch for 1 minute then let go of the gun then see how much water is gone from the pitcher to see how many ounces it is then do the math to see what ratio the injector pulled. I have never got close to what the manufacturer says it will pull.

The smaller machines will pull a stronger ratio as they are less gpm's.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like an innovative way to generate business!

Either downstream straight 12% or spray with the roof pump at 50/50 could probably go lower but I dont like to respray. 50/50 because its easy to calculate and it works, downstream straight 12% because thats what works. Caustic will help but its not needed on just mold.

Just got the word ... the HOA president is going to add my full page brochure to their HOA Spring Cleaning Newsletter mailing ... FOR FREE!!!

That is great Derrel, congratulations.

If you had a 1/2 clean 1/2 dirty picture of that driveway to put in that ad, that would get a lot of people thinking about their driveways.

A lot of times people don't realize how dirty their driveway is until you are cleaning it and they get to see all that stuff coming off and then they get grossed out.

I haven't done residential since 2006 but still get calls from a few HOA's that put our number in their newsletter. Just got a call last week.

Similar situation, in our case most of the Condos around here have unusual filter sizes that can't be found at the store. They call us all the time for permanent filters from the newsletters.
