When the customer asks?

What do you guys tell the customer when they ask you what your product is called that you are going to apply on their roof to treat it?
 
I use a combination of a sanitizing agent with special surfactants and activators that will kill and release the algae, moss lichen, and bacteria from the roof.
 
I tell them that as well. But when they ask what is the product called so we can look it up, what do you tell them?
 
What im getting at is we should come up with an industry name for our product. We all basically use the same mixture with a little different suraftant and sticking agents.
 
I tell them that my cleaning solutions and detergents are custom blended for me so they really don't have names but I could show them the msds for the components if they really want to see and are only sold to contractors with the proper insurance.

I am sure that they are probably just curious but there are those out there that will want to know if they can buy it at the store or make it themselves to save some money.
 
I do a thing where I try find out why they are asking. Sometimes I just politely ask why they want to know. I don't mind telling them, but if it is a loaded question and they have read some anti bleach article somewhere, there will be more explaining to do. We all know people are trying to monetize the roof cleaning product industry, but customers don't realize that. I try to figure out who cares about the details and who doesn't because It is hard to know what level of details is trivial to them. You could always write some cookie cutter explanation and leave it with or email it and save some time. This way they can do it in their spare time.
 
I tell them it's proprietary but do mention it is a chlorine base. That way their not so surprised when they smell it. Like Chris said, the more questions they ask the more it's likely they want to know what it is to try and do it themselves or hire a relative.
Most of my customers don't really care what we use, just want to know the process. But for the most part they just want their roof cleaned.
 
I always say "A magician never tells his secrets" it normally gets a laugh and we move on. If they press just tell them the mix won't cause damage, low pressure, blah, blah, blah.
 
We have branded out own names an msds sheets for our chems. Our employees no nothing but that.

Our concrete cleaner is Jasco our grease fighter jam. They are labeled as such. We do not market them.

Anyone just tell em' its a ARMA recommended mix? If they looked it up they would still have a lot of homework to do. Unless they just got lucky. I know pressure washers around here who don't like doing roofs because they can't get it right. I don't care if anyone knows, I would hate to think someone only values me for my roof cleaning recipe its not rocket science. I have told many customers what I use. If someone honestly tells me why they want to know I will tell them. I just don't like rewarding people for for being deceptive.
 
I tell them I have a many gourmet cleaning recipes that have been profected from years of practicing on other peoples roofs. I call it D-Foleyage!
 
Yea that could be a good question. "Well we have roof cleaning solution that we is tried and proven but since you ask...do you mind if we experiment with something different on your roof?? HA

I normally tell them it has a bleach base that way they know what it is when I spray it. I use to try to beat around it but why???
 
I tell them they can get a prescription from there Allergist to have their roof cleaned and use it as a tax deduction under health care. However, if they have asthma along with allergies stay away for a day or so because of the sodium hypochlorite vapors might induce an attack .I read some where that global warming is directly related to the spike in roof cleaning down south and it's eating a hole in the Ozone.

I once purchased (took as a trade in) a gallon of roof cleaner that pap had purchased at ABC. He used to clean the roof himself, 5/12 raised ranch, but now that all the kids had retired, they were too busy playing golf and traveling to hold the ladder. True story.
