Copied Website

I have about 5 different sites that have copied text from mine. My site use to rank very well in the organic results but in the last six months or so It has been falling off. I know unique content in pretty important to Google as far as SEO goes. I have contacted a couple of the sites with no response.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to help me out?

Thanks in advance!

I think a lot of people have seen some changes lately with Google. I know my site definetly took a hit. I have read that they changed their ranking formula again. My understanding is that google can see the sites with the duplicate content and which ones were created first. It sucks but it will probably bite them in the long run especially if google exludes their sites from their search results.

If they don't do anything after you communicate with them then contact Google and let them know what is happening.

If Google gets involved, their hosting company will have to pull the sites down or the hosting company can lose it's hosting privledges from what I hear and they don't want to lose a lot of revenue because of a site or two.

You have 3 or 4 paragraphs on your site. There are only so many words we can use. I think it's more the changes google have done than your site being copied.

Very true but copyscape and dmca.com picked it up, if these sites are picking it up so is Google.

This is a strait cut and paste of my whole site! Replace the XX's with tt's in http I'm not giving them any love!

HA! I clicked the link for the "web designer" at the bottom of the page. They boast "Uniquely Tailored & Professionally Designed". I have seen it where the design company actually is the one copying because they are not familiar enough with our industry. It would be interesting to know if the site owner knows that it has been copied from someone else's site.

BS all the way around in the end...

I agree, there are only so many ways to talk about being a professional power washing service. And that is definitely not what is bringing down your rank. Google puts out new alga-rhythms every quarter to ensure everyone gets a fair chance at the organic search engine market. In a sense everyone is copying from everyone because we are all the premier pressure washing companies in our areas! haha

If they take some personal information or blatantly steal something then there is a problem and you should report it.

But if you think that "our pressure washing service is "CITY," "STATE's" premier property maintenance service... is stealing, its not.

It very well may not be the reason why I'm taking a hit with Google. It still doesn't change the fact that it's a direct cut and paste. And there are 4 others just like it. Maybe it's time for me to talk to Keith over at KBK and just start over.

Yeah, Pat is a very nice guy that did my site, Dougs and several others as well. He can help you with the SEO as well!

Having someone copy YOU will not hurt YOU with Google, it will hurt THEM.
Google can tell the AGE of the content, so don't worry about it, be flattered.
Imitation is the sincerest form of Flattery.
People who copy YOU can get penalized for duplicate content, not YOU.

Chris is correct. The duplicate content debate has been raging for a long time but it has been proven that duplicate content on different domains does not hurt the sites. I have seen sites that were the copies out rank the originals. What you are seeing is that with all the algorithm changes, your site got caught up in the changes. Maybe all your links come from 1-3 types of sites like twitter, facebook and forum signatures. The web is not a field of dreams, just because you build it does not mean that they will come or that they will rank.

Sounds like you need more off site seo work to get your site back up to where you were before.
