I'm considering buying a cold water machine; 4000psi/4gpm with a comet pump. I have never heard of comet pumps. Are they reliable? cronic problems? parts availble? Any advise? Thanks

Comets aren't bad, just not Cats...lol. But seriously, they are no better or worse than the others.
May I suggest, though, that you reconsider your choice of 4000 psi? 4000 psi means almost all accessories, supplies, hoses - you name it - are more expensive and some local shops may not carry them in stock. I have one, so I am speaking from experience.

The Comet ZWD series of pumps were designed from the beginning to be 4000 PSI units; most other pumps have come up to 4000 PSI after testing proves they work. They also have forged brass connecting rods which are almost as strong as the stainless steel connecting rods found in Cat pumps and stronger than the aluminum connecting rods in the General EZ series of pumps. The LWD pumps feature the same sort of comparison for belt-drive units.
I also heartily agree with Mr. Orr in saying there is much additional cost to be considered when getting a 4000 PSI unit. You have to ensure that your fittings are rated to at least 4000 PSI which usually means more expensive high pressure forged brass or better still steel or stainless steel fittings. Hoses need to be rated to at least 4000 PSI working pressure but most R2 hose is rated to 5800 PSI. By the way the hose costs about twice as much. With anything less than a 40 degree tip you run a real risk of damaging surfaces with 4000 PSI from furring wood to breaking windows to peeling paint and even cutting concrete.
Find a local professional pressure washer dealer to help you get what you need to do the job efficiently and safely. The small amount extra you pay to get the support and training will save you money in the long run. At some point in the future you will gain enough knowledge and experience to do more on your own.
Unless you are planning on getting into the professional contract cleaning business it may even be a better idea to hire one to do the work for you. They will arrive and do the job right the first time or they would not be professionals.

Actually, Jeff is already in the business.
Jeff, stick with 3000psi, you should not need any more then that. The higher you can go on GPM's the happier you'll be..............its not pressure thats going to do it for you, especially on decks.

First, I like to thank everyone for their input. As Mike mentioned I am a full time cleaner with a skid mounted 3000psi/5gpm hot water machine. I'm looking for a second machine(cold water) but have not seen a 3000psi/5gpm machine with the companies that i have spoken with. Thats why I was considering a 4psi/4gpm machine. Does any one know where I can pick up a machine reasonably?

If you can wait about two weeks max I plan on selling one of my Cold water PW's that might interest you.
I bought this Powerwasher a few years ago and it has at most 150 hrs on it. This powerwasher is rated at 4000 psi @4gpm. It has a beauty of an engine on it.(18 HP Honda). This is a small skid mount Powerwasher that weighs about 350 lbs and is on wheels. It gear driven and has a brand new battery and was tuned up at the end of last year(With battery this cost me $200) it has an electric start and also pull cord which you'll never use.
I paid $2100 for this new and I'm looking to get about $800. It in perfect shape.
Also if your interested I could meet you half way to deliver it.I'm from Long Island NY and your from NJ so it won't be to far a drive for either.
Email me if your interested or let me know here and I'll send you a picture in about a week or so. I can't do anything sooner because I have a ton of work to do the next 8 days.
