Economy Hose Reels

In all honesty the reels take a tremendous beating that most people dont realize. Weight temprature change and the forces of reeling in and out make them a magnet for issues. I have had excellent luck with the Hannay 1500 series reels. They are one of the few items you can still get that are overbuilt and hold up excellent. They come stock with rebuildable ( on the reel) swivels and no plastic.
 
Get a piece of metal- I think the one in the pic is overkill, we only use about 5 different nozzles. Drill your holes, buy your rubber grommets at home depot or lowes for a few bucks. There you have it for under $10 bucks.
 
No fab work. All you need is a few bucks and a drill.
No welding, no grinding, no cutting.

Home depot has a big selection of metal of various thicknessess and sizes. Pick a piece that is 2" by 12" (or smaller) and start drilling.

I know the one in the picture shows 4 holes, but it does come with 5.

Hose reels with a very standard style swivel.

As a service center, we like 'em too..
they use a very standard style swivel,
so you can upgrade to your choice in swivels if you like.
Easily rebuildable swivel come on it standard anyway. :)
Also..
I would put an extension on the interior hose connection,
to put less stress on the hose-end.
..I just can't seem to keep from upgrades on everything..
..It comes from my race-car years,
..or being raised by a Quality-Control freak !

Jackhammer hose: Flow, is reliability and workspeed !

LOve the Flow,
..it is reliability and workspeed !

..and the extra $50 for 3/4" Jackhammer hose..
is about the more rigid wall,
flowing the MOST flow,
it's Un-collapsable,
and is paid for with workSpeed !
the bonus..
it never wears out.
You can get more "cheap hose" on your reel,
but it rolls up nicer as an "add-on" if you need it,
..to what lives on the reel.
75ft of Jackhammer hose on a "200ftx3/8" capacity reel works great.
just add "cheap hose if you have to.

Follow my lead for "Long-Term-Low-Cost"
 
I wouldnt recomend a 1/2" hose reel for a feed line to a tank period. I had it set up with 5/8 hose and it would take hours for the tank to fill. and we would run low on water quickly. you need 3/4" manifolds on the hose reel or your wasting time.
 
1/2" QC makes a VERY reliable swivel at garden-hose pressure

Good point..
I should have been that specific..
a reel with 1/2" swivel is required for reasonable flow.

Here's another tip..
a ..
just grease the o-ring real good !
I've seen these go 1 year between o-rings,
and it takes seconds to change it !!
save HUGE money and time on this one !!

and yes, they "flow" real good. :)
