Another reason to Respect guys who clean vent hoods

I had a kitchen to clean and it went ok but upon inspection of the areas, the assistant manager mentioned some areas that were very bad but I was not told to clean them.

These were the main gas lines behind the fryers and grills. These had not been maintained in a very long time and they needed them cleaned asap and all grease removed for an inspection.

I called Mike T. and told him the situation and he gave me some great advice on how to clean them, what chems to use and some new tricks that I had not heard of.

I tried what Mike T. mentioned and it was working better than the way I was going to clean. This advice cut the cleaning down easily by 1/2 the time I figured I would be there.

The grease was very hard in most areas, kind of petrified. hahahahaha

I finally got most of it scraped off (crawling around under gas lines and getting on the floor to get the lower gas line) and then applied the chems and hit it with very hot water and it looked great! The nite manager took a look at it and said the manager will be very happy!

The floor drains had clogged up 8 times last nite and 2 times today with all the grease that came off the floor under the fryers and grills, what came off the wall, the pipes, the sides of the equipment, etc... I hit it with hot water and got it unclogged.

I had cleaned this restaurant exterior, entrances, dumpster pad, etc.... last month and mentioned that I can probably help her with her kitchen area when she was ready, she called the other day for 1/2 the kitchen to be done asap. Cool!

I had only a small example of what the vent hood guys go through, that kind of work is something else and it gets very frustrating and aggravating when the stuff will not come off. I have a new found respect for the guys that clean vent hoods and have to scrape that stuff that seems like it is cement.

Thanks again Mike T.

I have respect for all the KEC guys out there. It is a job that I would definitly not want to do. Great job on getting it all Cleaned up Chris and it was a good idea calling Mike T. He really knows his stuff and he's a great guy. Kudo's on the Contractors helping Contractors. :thumbup2:

Use of FOG pads would have helped your clogged drain situation.

good post Chris

Way to go Micheal!

Great Stuff

Update:......

I went in today to leave the invoice and ask how she liked the job.

All the assistants said the manager loved the job and she came out and said how great it looks and that she was very happy!

When I handed her the invoice, she rolled her eyes, lowered her head and walked away with it. hahahahaha

She came back and did not say another word about the invoice and handed me a check. We talked about another cleaning job then she asked when I will start her monthly cleaning. Cool! That made my day!

I will start the first week of January and no need to talk to her, just do it. Cool!

Today was a great day!

Good for you!

After that job, I am seriously thinking of what to put on new business cards to market to restaurants. It was aggravating but now I know what to expect, got some great advice, learned a great grease chemical, I think they will go a lot faster and I know how long it will take so I can give them a price up front.

I will not get into the hood cleaning business, that is for the pro's.

Sounds like the extra training you did with Joe is paying off for you. Good Thread.

Chris, Glad it all worked out for you. No conversation with Chris is short. 53 minutes on the phone. That dude can talk. haha

Chris, Talked to my contact about that job, still waiting on Corporate bean counters to make their decision. They are on a time table so we should hear early next week.

Thanks for the info Mike.

If only customers were as interested in pressure washing as some of us are, a lot of us could talk for hours and hours. hahahahaha
