Interview Questions

Kory here's a hint....have the people to meet you at 5 am to fill out a app. if they show up say thanks we'll be in touch. 1 min after 5 leave the place of the meeting.
2 nd if they do show up tell them to show up at midnight somewhere for a interview. If they are late leave. I know you do night work and if you want someone that will fill that spot you might have to go this exstream to find someone. I know Mike Hilborn doesn't go this exstream but he does have some hoops for them to jump through before getting into a interview.
 
This is my first screen. I ask basic questions then I tell them to call me back right at 6pm that night or the next. Period.

I can't tell you how many will not call or forget and call a day or two later or call at 7pm. If they can't call you on time then they won't show up on time or follow basic instructions. If they call right at 6pm, then they want the job and are worth a second round of questions. Not very scientific but it helps.

I'd rather have someone with less skills that can show up on time than a guy that thinks he knows everything but never shows up on time.
 
Here some interview question to get you started
. What kind of supervisor gets the best work out of you?
. How would you describe you current supervisor?
. How do you structure your time?
. What were your three biggest accomplishments in your last job?
. What can you do for our company that no one else can?
. What are your strengths/weaknesses
. How far do you think you can go in this company ? Why?
. What interests you most about this company? This position?
. What do expext to be doing in 5 years?
. If you could design the perfect job for yourself, what would do? Why?
 
What's the most difficult (physically) task you ever had to do for an employer?
How long did you do it?

What do/did you like least/best about your previous/current job(s)/supervisor(s)

You should be able to tell within the first 5 minutes of any interview, (sometimes 30 seconds-1 minute) if this person is a potential candidate. Trust your instinct.

Pay attention to how the person walks and body language.

Rick I agree with you....I can teach pressure washing I can't teach showing up on time. That's first and most important to me. dependability, honesty, work ethic......
 
One question that I
usually gain a lot of knowledge through is:


"Hypothetically at your last job your boss (Supervisor) was let go and you were given the position. What is the first thing you would change and or implement?

Main rule of thumb is to ask the question and pause. Wait of the answer or response. To often the interviewer misses information because the applicant didn't have a chance to process the question and the interviewer moves on for lack of response right away.

Something that is a good indicator to watch is the eyes of the applicant. When asked a question the answer usually is on the truthful side if their eyes goes up and to the right while thinking and the opposite if they goes up and to the left. Not 100% by any means but proven to be a good indicator for you to make more consideration.

Lastly follow the 80/20 rule. If you are doing 80% of the talking and the applicant 20% your not gathering enough info to make a good decision. By asking open ended thought provoking questions you should be able to be informed enough to determine if they will fit the position. ALways Always Always call past employers for references.
 
That is pretty harsh. I generally meet them in a casual setting, coffee shop, deli, etc. Sit down with them, talk with them about their work history, tell them that I drug test and do background checks before hiring as well as call all references. I think that the interview is key and you can tell alot about a person. If I do decide to hire someone, it is a trial period of a week or two, allows us both to see if it will work.
 
I normaly meet them at a early hour ask them if they can do the job. if they say yes i take them out and let them show me what they can do. Then i get chance to see if they have the abilitys and will power needed to do the job
I make appointments and meeting times. during the day. if the staff does not turn up on time they dont work that day.
Hard but good trainning.

I like that Approach also, I do have them Fax email and send resume to office calling me back and designated times. If all that happens I will meet them.



"What Do you expect from Me as employer"

"what are you going to do when you grow up" Seriously

Truly if someone has followed all the directions to this point they have a good chance of getting the job.

Ok heres my full process

Ad in whatever

They call for the application

First mistake you make is when you make the ad

When they call they are asked to FAX not Email a copy of drivers licensed.

This eliminates many of them......

They are asked to call back the next day to see if the DMV report is ok. If the DMV report good on that phone call they can send resume by FAX of Email. Again then asked again to call back at and exact time to get appointment for interview.

Some are smart enough to know they are jumping through hoops. We tell them the jobs is labor intense and requires someone in very good physical shape. We do not candy coat the job, we tell them we are looking for employees that do not need baby sitters.

If they respond to all request day three is here and they are calling to get some time in front of me or Tim to hire. If anyone needs to start immediately we do not even give them a shot. My entire process is 10 days, I have and average employee track record on average of 8 years with company.

My shortest are office people , seems working close to me is a problem. LOL
