Anybody ever invented a magnetic scraper

ductscraper.com is well worth the money. It pays for itself many times over once you have it. If you consider the time and material that would involve making your own that "might" work, it will be more than the $300 they are asking for a proven tool.

Take the plunge John. You won't regret it.

We have had a nothing but great results from ours :thumbup2: Well worth it! Really cant imagine not having one on each truck!
 
:thumbup2::thumbup2: Its worth every bit of $300,00 ,I thought that the welds in the duct work would snap the razor blades and I would be changing them multiple times on a job. I was wrong.

If you find the right blades, it's not an issue. Cheap blades = lots of headaches.
 
I think yall are right .. I may just buy one of them .. I have been using a wallpaper razor scraper with a 4 foot handle and it work pretty good .. But on the longer ducts it is tough to get the right angle on the scraper.. I may also get me a duct spinner as I have a few accounts with bad lateral duct work .. I am having trouble getting the owners to purchase clean out doors that should have been in there in the first place..
Where is the best place to get the duct scraper at ?
 
Well now we do scrape the ductwork when it is straight .. Usually on really long duct work it is hard to hold the scraper steady.. Thats why I was thinking about the magnetic scraper.. For lateral duct work I use a spinner usually , but it would be nice to have a magnetic one.. I think I am going to get the 4 inch and try it out..
 
Just wanted to say, we think the magnetic scraper from gaurdian is the real deal. Can't imagine how you old timers used to clean without one. It's money and I wouldn't waste time trying to re-invent the wheel.

The inventor of the magnetic scraper is a hood cleaner and has a great product, well worth the price, not the to mention the time saved and better results.
 
I agree, someone out there spent a lot of time, money and probably slowed down some jobs trying out what they invented to see if it worked (slowing down jobs causes delays, more payroll, more costs, etc...) so when you look at the big picture of what it really took to make that pole with the magnet and blades, there really is a lot more to it that you will never see or probably think about.

Sometimes there is a great tool out there to make our jobs a lot easier, faster or does a better job than the way we currently do things but it cost more money than what we can afford or what we want to spend on that new tool.

Figure out how much time it will save you on the job, how much easier it will make the job and if you will be able to do the job better. If it will do the above then time to save the money to get that tool as it will pay for itself in a short time. Sometimes the tools are very expensive and it might take months or a year to save up but then when you have that tool, life is usually a lot better.
 
I agree Christopher .. But what if you can improve on what has already been made and then sell a bunch of them .. Then get rich and retire in the Bahama's ? I have got a better design .. We will see if it works better.. As far as my time ... Inventing things has become more of a hobby to me than anything else.. It's Ok though ... Remember that there is nothing wrong with building a better mousetrap , people have been doing it for years

OK .. I tried to make one , and yep it will work .. but it's not as good as the orginal .. As most of my stuff isn't .. However my surface cleaner that I built still works, and my vac with pump out still works.. But this was a mechanical nightmare.. First I took a scrape peice of aluminum.. The trick in cutting the grooves is getting the angle just right for the blades you are using .. Then the task of fitting the plate magnet was a tough one .. I am still working on the blade mounts,, But in all fairness to the guy who made this tool I went ahead and ordered one of the 4 inch ones just to see how it works... It should be here soon and I will try it out on a couple of mexican restaurants.. Hopefully this is 300.00 well spent.. Not to say I won't finish the one I am Building , but like I always say I got to have something to do in my spare time ... And I am still working on my vac surface cleaner as well , but that is a projest more for this spring and summer...
