FORCED To Reclaim on Fundraiser Car Wash

Stay In business? I have been filtering longer and more consistently than you, from what you yourself have told me many many times.

As far as staying in Business... that is a scare tactics unto itself. You know dam well I have been in business almost as long as you. You are three years older than me and have been in business 3 year longer than me. We net close to the same profit, though you gross way more than I and have way more expenses.

There were two classic marketing concepts back at the private college I attended in San Francisco. In my second year of marketing classes both different concepts was studied... Both are good and both had flaws in their own ways. One deals with high volume with low net returns and the lower volume with premium returns. Thats is what our marketing concepts are in our companies. Your the Walmart of pressure washing and I am the Macy's. Of course I must admit I shop at Walmart more than Macy's unless I need something special.

So around this September, it will be 21 years... vs your 24 years.

According to Robert M. Hinderliter and others in the field, filtration is coming sooner or later. I know that would hurt many successful pressure washers who currently DO NOT Filter. I can understand your heavy concerns for your business in wanting to fight this, even though as of today you are compliant. If this reaches your tough state as it has in California back in 1992, you would have to reprice your cost structure and adapt to using a filter as I do. ( Gas Pads, Oil bins, Parking Structures, Drive thru's, All fast food Restaurants, Garbage Bins etc.). I am sure that is a major concern if your trailers do not have filtration units on each one of them.

Good luck to you and I hope you stay in business when those laws come around to you as well. I am sure you will have no problems in outfitting all of your rigs with filters if your state requires them as in California.

I will say this again, I do not support filtration of cleaning sidewalks for the purpose of gum removal / soda stains.

Here are some pictures.

The first one is how we must put s "Plug / stopper " in the pipe AND then a 5 gallon bucket over it to insure that no water gets pass us.

The second is a quick run by pass of the oil that was removed. we usually do another 3 more procedures before we are finished in the oil removal.

The third photo is of us discharging into the local sewer. Permit required.

The forth is of my filter settlement tank. 550 gallons. We are at 425 gallons and filling up fast as the guys are rinsing from the floors above.

And the crowd starts chanting: Jerry! Jerry!! Jerry!!! This thread is too comical. I would hate to see this go on in a wood forum. ha ha

It is almost as comical as the reputation thread that was started a while back.

Ron, You're not saying that dumping filtered (oil sock) water from sidewalk cleaning without soap is against the CWA are you?

The little saying of "nothing down the drain but rain" is a convenient little jingle, but it is in fact a lie. A better one would be "Going down the drain? Better use your brain".

Permits are given out every day for construction crews to dump right down the storm sewer. Why are they given these permits? Because they are a huge source of contaminants and need to be monitored and controlled.

Our industry it NOT a huge source of contaminants and should be EXEMPTED if we use the same basic oil sock filtration the permitted companies are allowed to use.

Fleetwashing may be a different story.

We need to fight for local exemptions and the time is now.

Ron, set the record straight, on a national level there is no law against filtering streetwash/sidewalk wash runoff through and oil sock and into the storm drain.

Hey Garage Jim,

What are your gross sales and net profit on average? What was your YTD on June 30? Thanks,

Ron probable knows. I am not going to say here on the forums.

Just a Note here guys,

I DO NOT MEAN ANY DISRESPECT TO RON OR ANYBODY ON THIS FORUM.

I was talking about marketing plans and using two multi million... if not billion dollar companies. I was talking from a lecture from my professor who did use both Walmart and Macy's in his 2 hour lectures.

Again, NO DISRESPECT WAS IMPLIED AND HOPEFULLY , ANYBODY WHO HAD 3 OR MORE YEARS OF MARKETING IN A UNIVERSITY WOULD KNOW WHAT I MEANT.

Wow, It's a wonder you ever made a dime if you actually BELIEVED the crap they have taught in college over the past 30 years.

It took me over 10 years to overcome the retardation instilled in me in college before I could make a dime. And the college kids we took under our wings and interned over the past ten years have been the stupidest bunch I've ever seen. (But they were always right and we were always wrong) Now, out of three, two are unemployed and one is a manager at a department store. BIG ENTREPRENEURS!

Bring on the firestorm, but the most successful people, even on this forum know that most of what you learn in college is a crock.

Was Walmart even in existence when you were in college Jim? I thought everybody bought everything from the Sears catalog when you were in college...:p:p:p:p You are old man!!

DISCLAIMER: I don't mean any disrespect for Jim. I do, however mean to say that a college education in this day and age is just about as useful as most reclaim units.

You know you're welcome any time, but if you come out here and start vacuuming the house again and talking about "California guidelines for carpet lint" I'm going to make you sleep outside. (where you can feel free to vacuum the pool anytime you want)

LOL LOL LOL .....

Anyway, now that we had some fun, we should not get away from this subject. It is not fair to the ones who posted above who really wanted to know about what happened to a fellow contractor (AL) .

If we want to act this way, we should start it on the members site and not this thread out of respect to Al and all who wanted to really know what he went through just to do a church fundraiser car wash.

I like a good laugh as the next guy and I know we are having fun... but this type of " fun" should not be on an open thread for everyone who may not know us thinking that we are not professional as we imply we are. Some could take it as disrespecting each other. And that hurts all of us more then any thread as PWI members.

If we want to contribute to the thread, whether agreeing or not with the subject, we should not disrespect the thread by acting like a bunch of *(&*%^%&^%. That type of playing around should be in the Alfa GAMA WASH 550 forum and keep from our past, present or future customers from reading those type of posts, lets keep our respect and the professionalism that is perceive from our customers ....lets keep it clean... please. :)
