Reggie, here is some interesting reading from a 7th grade class project.
SHC, or bleach will cause rust, and this rust can "eat through metal"
One of my first roof cleaning trucks had an overhead ladder rack.
Though I rinsed the ladders, they dripped weak SHC on the cab of the truck.
Pretty soon, the whole top of the Cab of the truck rusted, and finally broke.
+++++
I am in the seventh grade and we had a science fair so I decided to do it on ways to cause rust I used:
1. 5 plastic cups or containers
2.5 nails make sure the steel and can rust
3.1 cup bleach 1 cup vinegar 1 cup water 1 cup salt water and 1 cp sugar water in both of the sgr and slt wtr i used 2 tsp of each sgr and slt
4. and 2 days to do this
I put the nails in each cup and let them sit 4 a half an hour the one that had the most affect was the one with the bleach and the tap water. In the end the best way to cause rust is to use clorox bleach.

So Chris what about roof cleaning solutions that contain sh? Will they "eat right through" flashing around chimmneys, roof vents etc. "Eat right through" gutters, aluminum siding, window frames, skylights, attic fans, metal facias, etc.
Can you please not oversimplify the answer so I don't have to explain to yet another customer that the generally accepted roof cleaning practice will not damage these things if used properly.
I assume Reggie wants to know this for the purposes of roof cleaning not to complete his science fair project.
Reggie did NOT ask about Roofs, he asked about Metal.Does sh eat through metal?
We have cleaned many roofs over the years.
I have yet to see any signifigant damage to any metal on, or around the roof.
