Grease fire damages restaurant
March 27, 2011 -

A Sunday morning fire in the kitchen at TGI Friday's spread into the roof area of the Loyalsock Township restaurant, which management hopes to re-open for business this week.

Township assistant fire Chief Tim Boush said the accident occurred just before 9 a.m.

He said firefighters had flames under control within a half-hour.

"A grease fire in the kitchen started it," Boush said. "It spread through the vent and duct work and into the roof area."

Tom Comfort, manager of the 1840 E. Third St. eatery, said everyone safely fled from the building.

While making repairs, Comfort closed the restaurant Sunday.

He said it could re-open for business as early as Monday, March 28.

"They did a great job," Comfort said of the firefighters quick response.

Boush said the fire got out of control from a grilling unit when workers there were doing food preparatory work.

Damage is estimated by Boush at $40,000.

Fire departments assisting the township at the scene came from the city, Montoursville Borough and the townships of Eldred, Hepburn and Woodward.
