St Petersburg, FL

ST. PETERSBURG — A Chinese restaurant had to be evacuated and eventually closed following a fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon.

St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue was called to China Wok, 3433 49th St. N, shortly after 4:30 p.m.

It appears that the blaze was caused by grease that caught fire in the kitchen, said Lt. Joel Granata, the fire department spokesman.

"It was confined to the hood above the stove and the vent pipe," he said.

Firefighters had the blaze out in less than 10 minutes, Granata said. The restaurant sustained heavy water damage, he said. No other information was available.
