SF's Oldest Restaurant Damaged In Fire

SF's Tadich Grill Damaged In Fire Firefighters worked to put out a two-alarm fire Monday that caused $150,000 in damage to San Francisco's oldest restaurant.

The blaze accidentally started in a wood-burning stove in the kitchen at Tadich Grill at 240 California Street in the city's Financial District, fire officials said.

The fire occured just before 11 a.m. and was brought under control about 11:45 a.m.

Deputy San Francisco Fire Chief Pat Gardner said the fire was quickly extinguished, and no injuries reported.

An adjacent building to the restaurant at 230 California St. sustained damage estimated at $10,000, according to the fire department.

Founded by the Buich brothers, the historic Tadich Grill was established in 1849. It has operated in several different locations over its nearly 160-year history.

A Tadich Grill employee said the restaurant was expected to reopen for business on Tuesday morning.
