Crews Battle Two-Alarm Blaze At San Jose McDonald's

Posted: 4:17 pm PDT April 2, 2011
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Customers at a San Jose McDonald's were forced to find burgers and fries at another location or restaurant after a two-alarm kitchen fire shut down the restaurant and caused about $100,000 in damage Saturday afternoon, a fire captain said.

Firefighters responded to reports of a two-alarm blaze at the McDonald's located at 1142 N. Capitol Ave. at about 12:50 p.m., San Jose fire Capt. Anthony Melendrez said.

A combined 10 engines and trucks assisted in extinguishing the fire, which damaged the kitchen, attic, and ducts in the restaurant, Melendrez said.

The blaze was put out at about 1:50 p.m. with no injuries reported, but firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof in order to battle the flames, Melendrez said.

Investigators were working to identify the cause of the fire Saturday evening, he said.

The restaurant was closed until further notice.
