Rutland, VT

Rutland firefighters were called to a Chinese restaurant Monday with reports that smoke and flames were shooting from the building.

Several businesses in the Price Chopper shopping mall were evacuated just before noon. Fire officials say parts of the roof of the Double Dragon had to be hacked away to get at the ventilation system for the grill. The fire was confined to the kitchen area and was quickly put out.

There is no estimate yet on the damage. Officials say that the Vermont State Police fire investigator was called to the scene. There were no injuries.
