Mount Olive, Budd Lake NJ

2/21/2011 — A Budd Lake Chinese food restaurant was closed after a grease fire spread throughout the building through an exhaust system on Friday, authorities said.

The Budd Lake Fire Department responded to Lucky Garden Restaurant on Mount Olive Road about 6 p.m. after Police Officer Thomas Cuff was patrolling the area and noticed flames near the roof of the building, police said. One patron inside was unaware of the fire as employees in the kitchen were attempting to extinguish the blaze, police said. Cuff evacuated the building as the fire department responded.

Authorities said an investigation determined the blaze started as a grease fire in the kitchen and spread into the exhaust ventilation system to the roof exhaust. There were no injuries, but the restaurant was closed due to significant damage in the kitchen, police said.

The Budd Lake First Aid Squad, Flanders Fire Department, Hackettstown Regional Medical Center ambulance and Netcong Fire Department all assisted.
