Mall food court fire

KENTWOOD -- Woodland Mall is set to reopen at 4 p.m. after it was evacuated for a kitchn fire in a food court restaurant. The food court will remain closed for the rest of the day, but firefighters expect most of it will reopen on Wednesday. But Lotus Express, the restaurant where the fire occurred, will remain closed for a time, they said.

KENTWOOD -- Firefighters say they may be able to reopen Woodland Mall within the next hour after it was evacuated for a fire in a kitchen of a food court restaurant, Lotus Express.

The fire started at 1:15 p.m. but was soon extinguished by building sprinklers, with the help of water from fire truck hoses.

The fire did not spread beyond the restaurant kitchen and there was no damage to the rest of the mall, firefighters said.The mall was evacuated as a precaution while firefighters check for roof damage and clean up water in the food court area.
