It doesn't need to be painful

Ever pinch a nerve in your back? Try standing at an awkward position leaning over with wet feet for an hour. That is what it is like for many home owners or business owners’ pressure cleaning their sidewalks. That isn’t to mention how wet your nice hiking boots get. If you or an employee is going to power wash a sidewalk here’s a few tips to keep you from injuring yourself.

Buy a wand that allows you to change out the lance to fit your height more appropriately. If you are 6 foot tall your Home Depot pressure cleaner won’t fit your body. It’s like trying to ski without the proper length ski. You are going to hurt yourself. You should be able to stand up straight and have the tip of the wand about three to two inches from the ground. Most pressure cleaning supply companies sell various lance lengths for this purpose. Keep in mind another body mechanic.
I have trained as a classical guitarist and cellist. The same body mechanics work in virtually any profession. If you raise your shoulders you are going to fatigue and eventually injure yourself. When cleaning concrete keep your body as square as possible. Don’t allow the shoulder of the arm you are shooting with to push upwards. Keep your shoulders relaxed and level. If you are going to be cleaning up gum, detailing a side walk, it takes time. Give your body a break. If it is telling you something hurts, listen to it, adjust what you are doing. Muscling through pain sounds good but doesn’t always work out as well. Get the right sized lance, square your body and keep your shoulders relaxed.
Remember those hiking boots? A pair of inexpensive rubber boots could save you from a very painful injury. Water injection injuries with the feet are easily prevented with the right footwear. Plus, the feet stay dry.
