FROM STNG WIRE REPORTS

A grease fire at a Magnificent Mile restaurant prompted a large fire department response, halting traffic Sunday night.

Emergency crews responded about 7:20 p.m. to a fire at a high-rise at 950 N. Michigan Ave., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.

The high-rise has commercial units on the lower level and condominiums on the top floors, according to Web directories.

A fire in a high-rise automatically prompts a still-and-box alarm and EMS Plan 1, sending five ambulances, four engines, four trucks, four battalion chiefs, two field officers, one deputy district chief and numerous other department officers and investigators.

Roccasalva said the fire appears to have started as a grease fire in a lower-level restaurant. Multiple restaurants are listed in the building and the name of the restaurant was not immediately known.

Nobody was injured and the fire was extinguished just before 8 p.m.
