Grease fire closes Galesville restaurant

GALESVILLE - Its owners hope to reopen the Garden of Eatin' restaurant in downtown Galesville by Friday, after a grease fire in its grill at about 9 a.m. today.

An employee was cooking at the grill when its grease trap began to smoke and quickly caught fire, said Karen Naegle, who owns the restaurant with her husband, Michael. Police Chief Paul Evenson used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames before firefighters arrived.

Flames had come out of the back of the grill, so firefighters cut a hole where the exhaust system exits the building to make sure the fire hadn't spread to the structure. An electrician was checking out the exhaust system this afternoon, while repairs and cleanup continued at the restaurant.

There were no injuries.
