Fire Destroys St. Paul Restaurant

ST. PAUL (WCCO) ― A fire gutted the Restaurante El Cimarron in St. Paul on Aug. 11, 2009.

A fire overnight destroyed a St. Paul restaurant.

The fire broke out around 11 p.m. at Restaurante El Cimarron, which is located on the 1000 block of Payne Avenue in the city's East side.

Someone going by the restaurant saw smoke coming from the building and called authorities.

About 30 firefighters were able to get the fire out quickly, but it did spread to the roof and the attic, gutting the restaurant. A store inside the restaurant was also destroyed.

Investigators believe the fire started above some cooking equipment. They don't believe the fire is suspicious.

The fire caused about $100,000 worth of damage.
