A 53-year-old female employee was transported to the hospital after a fire broke out this morning at a restaurant in the Hudson's Bay neighborhood.

Firefighters were dispatched at 5:17 a.m. to Christine's Restaurant, 2626 E. Evergreen Blvd. Arriving six minutes later, they found light smoke coming from the kitchen and a female employee in back of the restaurant, said Vancouver firefighter-spokesman Jim Flaherty.

The restaurant's fire extinguishing system doused most of the fire before crews arrived; firefighters extinguished the rest of the small blaze.

Damage was estimated at $10,000. The employee was taken by ambulance to Southwest Washington Medical Center with minor breathing problems, Flaherty said. Her condition this morning wasn't immediately available.
