Three-alarm fire forces evacuation of Ridgewood restaurant

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A three-alarm ventilation system fire forced the evacuation of an upscale village restaurant Wednesday night, authorities said.

No injuries were reported.

The fire started just before 7 p.m. on the roof of the Stable Restaurant on East Ridgewood Avenue, said Lt. Chris DuFlocq of the Ridgewood Fire Department.

Heavy smoke prompted officials to call fire departments from four neighboring towns for assistance, but DuFlocq said the damage to the restaurant’s roof ended up being “minimal.”

“The guys made a great and aggressive move,” he said.

A man who answered the phone at the Stable around 8:45 p.m. said that the restaurant, which specializes in skewered meats, was open, but DuFlocq said that it was evacuated for several hours until around 9:30 p.m.
