Have you ever read the book, "Who moved my cheese"? I fell asleep reading it, but I got the concept a few pages into it, or I hope so. This is just an intuition, but I see that if I were a popular, sophisticated and cutting edge search engine I would be eventually phasing out or cutting back on the emphasis of back linking. Why would I say such a thing? Simple, back linking can and is being manipulated every minute of everyday. Would you want people screwing with your stuff like that? Even if in your biased opinion, you answered yes to this question there are certain social reason why you would be left behind in the dust as a search engine. These guys exist to bring helpful information to regular people every day. They do it because that is and always will be a popular thing to do. Common sense, right? Absolutely! If you are wondering how you think they might do that? I would say how do you know they haven't already? That's just my two cents worth.....
