Why I Think Disruptor's Stingray Reels Are the Best Hose Reels in the Industry
I've been around this industry a long time. I've wound, unwound, kinked, cussed at, and replaced more hose reels than I can count. So when I say Disruptor Manufacturing makes the best hose reels in the industry, I don't say it lightly. In my opinion, nobody's doing it better right now.
Let me tell you why.
Your reel matters more than you think
Most guys spend their money on the pump, the engine, and the tank. The reel's an afterthought. That's a mistake. Your reel touches every single job you do.
Think about it:
- Time. Pulling out and winding up 200 or 300 feet of hose, twice a job, every job. A reel that fights you burns daylight. A good one gets you to the next house sooner.
- Hose life. A sloppy wind means kinks, pinches, and hose rubbing where it shouldn't. Hose isn't cheap. A good reel lays it down clean and makes it last.
- Kinks and tangles. Nothing kills your rhythm like a kinked line halfway up a driveway.
- Rig setup. Space on a trailer or truck bed is money. Reels that mount clean and stack right make the whole rig work better.
- Safety. Hose left laying around the yard is a trip hazard for you, your crew, and your customer.
- Professional look. Customers notice. A clean rig with solid reels tells them you're a real company before you ever pull the trigger.
Who's behind them
Disruptor Manufacturing is out of Sanford, Florida. It was founded by AC Lockyer, who's got deep roots in soft washing and spray equipment. They started Disruptor in 2017 to build their own equipment in-house instead of farming it out. That shows. These reels feel like they were designed by people who've actually worked off a rig. Their reel line is called Stingray Hose Reels.
What makes Stingray reels stand out
Here's what sold me. All of this is straight from Disruptor's own product pages:
- 316 stainless steel manifolds. Stainless built to stand up to harsh chemicals. If you soft wash, you know what bleach does to cheap parts.
- Stainless Stingray swivel. A full-flow 3/4" swivel built from 3/16" stainless with Viton O-rings, designed to handle sodium hypochlorite. Full flow means no restriction, so you hold your pressure.
- Polymer bearing blocks. Non-corrosive, self-lubricating HDPE bushings. Less rust, less maintenance.
- All-aluminum, self-stacking frame (Manta). Stack 'em up without a bunch of extra brackets and fab work.
- Built-in hose guides. The Manta comes with what they call MANTA MANDIBLE hose guides. Hose goes on straight and comes off straight.
- Cam lock brake and variable tensioner on the Manta and Mako, so the reel doesn't free-spool on you.
- Lifetime warranty. Disruptor backs the Stingray line with a lifetime warranty. That tells you how they feel about what they build.
For capacity, the 15" Manta and Mako are both rated by Disruptor for 300 feet of 3/8" pressure washer hose, or 500 feet of 3/8" clear braid. They also list capacities for 1/2", 5/8", and 3/4" clear braid, so you can run your soft wash lines on them too.
Which reel fits your rig?
Here's how I'd break it down:
- Manta Electric (15"). Their flagship. Electric rewind, self-stacking aluminum frame, hose guides built in. If you're winding hundreds of feet of hose all day, this is the one. Push a button and save your back and your time. This is the reel I'd point a busy full-time operator to.
- Manta Manual (15"). Same premium build, same frame and hose guides, but hand crank. Great if you want the top-tier reel and like having control. They also list a 12" Manta Manual.
- Mako (15"). Their half-frame, core-features reel. Same 316 stainless manifold, same bearing blocks, same lifetime warranty. Comes in manual and electric. You can start with the basics and add hose guides or a stacking kit later. Perfect for a guy building his first real rig.
- Manta 30" Electric Storage. Made for storing a big run of water supply hose, so you can disconnect and plug straight into your machine when you need the most flow.
- U-Frame (12"). For tight spots. It's got a slim 7" mounting surface, with the same stainless manifold and polymer bearing blocks.
- Skate Reels. Small, light, and portable. They hold up to 130 feet of 3/8" hose and work for window cleaning setups. No manifold, so no liquid runs through the reel. Easy to carry, but strong enough to mount on a rig or skid.
My advice: put a Manta Electric on your main pressure line, run Mantas or Makos for your soft wash lines, and stack them clean. If you're just starting out, a Mako gets you a pro-grade reel with room to grow.
Bottom line
A hose reel isn't flashy. But it's one of the few pieces of equipment you put your hands on every single job, all day long. Buy cheap and you'll buy twice. In my opinion, Disruptor's Stingray reels are the best in the industry. They're built for the way we actually work, they stand up to soft wash chemicals, and they're backed by a lifetime warranty.
