Why do we pay taxes to these people

I have been cleaning a McDonalds at the Navy Annex in Arlington Virginia for two years now. I was always told to clean the hoods and the lower duct to the ceiling, They would take care of the rest. ( I guess a security thing. They don't want anyone else snooping around in their building) I got a call yesterday concerning this email.

Steve,
I just received a call from Pentagon Safety regarding results of a recent
inspection of the duct work at FB2.
The grease build up is so severe as to warrant shutting McDonalds down if
it is not cleaned within the next few days. Building Management is asking
if McDonald's has a contract in place for a company to come in quickly to
do this work, then they will later discuss who should pay for it. They
believe that would be faster than trying to get a Government contractor in
here (you know how fast Uncle Sam works).

As I understand it, the issue of responsibility for FB2 differs from
Pentagon (FB1) in that McDonald's is the sole user of the hood system. The
Pentagon has various organizations besides Concessions that prepare food.

Now, if you contact someone, this is what you need to tell them:
Cleaning of the complete duct system, from hood to fan to the roof
There are not enough access ports so they need to have special equipment
that can extend around corners and bends to get the hard to reach areas:eek:

Building Management is asking for our cooperation in this matter so that we
can stay in operation.

Please get back to me as soon as possible on this.
Thank you for your continued cooperation.

My relpy:
After reading the email sent to you regarding this duct work, noting that it mentions not enough access ports and using special equipment to reach around corners. There is a good chance that we will get there and not be able to do enough to satisfy all parties involved.
I suggest that I come down to look and see what is needed and talk to someone about installing access panels. http://www.ductmate.com/products/hightemp.asp This is a link to the access panel I spoke with you about yesterday. I thought it may help whomever have a better understanding of what it is.
If we are needed to come anyway and clean what we can get to, we are willing to do so, but if the grease build up is as bad as reported it will in most cases require scraping before we apply any cleaners and pressure wash it. In all of my years of cleaning I have yet to come across a tool that will allow you to scrape around a corner.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I asked about installing access panels, which I can do. I was then told to clean the system first so they can weld in the access panels without fear of a fire. After picking my jaw off of the floor I sent them a link to the duct mate doors trying to politely point out the flaws in their thought process.
I am still waiting on a response. by the way does anyone have a line on the special equipment they are talking about, or is that something they are working on in the dessert in New Mexico?

I'll bet I get audited for this one

Use the foam!

Bryan that is classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been there done that.

People think we can just waive our hands around and Poof all the grease disappears, no need to install access doors - Problem solved!!

I'd love to be your salesman on that job - lots o money in there under all that grease.

Is there a certification class for the powder? and how much is it?

Matt, you will need to change the name of your powder business. I have already made claim the the NFPA, National Fling Powder Association. If you do not change the name, I will put my attorney onto you. He is the nationally known Mr Howe of the law firm of Dewey, Cheatum and Howe.
