BRYAN, DO NOT TOUCH!
When the fire system trips, you don't want to be to blame! and if the system doesn't trip when it should...you don't want to be the one they blame!
Have the restaurant owner contact thier fire system service company to get the link line repaired. Then you will have an easy job of cleaning it.

I agree with Grant, its cheaper to come back to the job after its repaired then to have it own you because you fixed it.

Another company in our area that does hood cleaning had a link that looked like that. This has been a couple years back but when they arrived to clean they found the broken link. They were there by themselves and were told to lock up when they leave, so of course the next day when he told the customer about it they said he must have broke it while removing the filters or something. I don't know if they broke it or not he say's they didn't but he still ended up paying for it. I know that I've had a hell of a time getting filters out of some of our systems due to the amount of grease holding them in ( really have to whack em ). If he did do it then he learned from his mistake I would hope but if he didn't well then he got screwed.

Well actually, we did clean it. I tried to get the manager on duty to call his boss, he said his boss didn't answer. So I told him "they would have to get it fixed before we cleaned it, I'll check back in a few days to see if they got it fixed and to reschedule". Then magically the next thing I know the manager come out of the office holding the phone and tells me his boss wants to talk to me. (Funny, I thought he didn't answer the phone.) This guy tells me he is having an inspection tomorrow and it has to be cleaned. I explained to him that if system goes off he would not even open up on time the next day. He said clean anyway and don't break it. (Yeah OOOOK" no problem!). Anyway I had them sign a paper stating that we would not be responsible if it went off, we were extra cautious around the link, which I don't think worked anyway, and the job actually went quickly, not very dirty.

Did you note on your invoice that the fire system requires immediate attention by a licensed company

CYA

No I didn't note it, but I did call the suppression company myself, before I went to bed that morning, I know those guy pretty well, they service just about every McDonalds we clean, and I've had a few occassions to meet with them. They it fixed the next night. The store manager never did call them.

if that system is not ul 300 .. he is looking at a new system in my book.. also judgeing by the link bracket I am guessing it is a range crap I mean Range Guard System... LOL

Any Hoo

Some Companies just don't take time to screw the link brackets to the top of the hood.. They think they can run 3 or 4 brackets with like one screw holding it all together.. This is the way some companies here do it..

Not us ... I screw them down each and every one..

Range Guard and Ansul are good systems But My system ( Pyro-Chem ) is the best by far
Maybe you should get you a little commision from the system sell or maintenance..
I always give a 10% bump to companies that turn me on to fire hazard crap like that..and then I usually end up getting there hood cleaning account , concrete account, fire equipment account... Damn I am MEAN>>>>>>

My theory is ( The one with the most accounts at the end WINS !!!!!)
