What I've been up to..........

Mike Hughes

Former Board Administrator
Hi all,

I just logged on the other night for the first time in almost a year. In that time, I took on a full time job in addition to running my business. I worked most of 2005 as a salesperson for a large home improvement company, selling vinyl siding, windows, roofing, gutters, and gutter protection. I did really well at it, selling over 51% of the demonstrations I gave..........one call. The travel proved to be too much. I was never home. I didnt have dinner with the family or give the kids kisses goodnight except for sunday nights. It was crazy.

Therefore, I took an opportunity in November to study a new industry. I now work as a salesperson for a HVAC company, mostly residential. I really enjoy the HVAC industry. One of my favortite things about it is the fact that everyone needs it. It's not like cosmetic cleaning or gutter protection. If your heater breaks down, theres no doubt..........you need a new one. Also, new heaters and air conditioners practically pay for themselves due to the increased efficiency.

I had some medical problems that really put a strain on my business. I have put things on hold for the moment..........I skipped the gutter cleaning season this past year............but I will have things up and running in the spring in time for decks and house washing.

My family is doing well. My wife and I have two boys..........a six year old and a 20 month old. My future crew. :)

I miss the people on the boards that I have gotten to know over the years. As you can see from my post count, and my post count on another bbs, I spent a lot of time and energy on these bulletin boards. On of the main reasons I did that was becasue of the immense amount of help I received when I first started in the business back in 1998. Back in the day, www.dcs1.com was the only show in town.............but, it made a huge difference in my learning curve.......so did my attending various PWNA seminars.

I vowed to give back to the industry, and support and educate newcomers to the industry, just as was done for me. Looking back on over 4,000 internet postings, administering two bulletin boards, and serving on the PWNA Board of Directors...............I think I might have overdone it, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Now, I cant seem to find the time anymore.........but life goes on.

I'm glad to see Grant carrying the torch here (olympic pun not intended). I hope you are all doing well........and I'll try not to be so much of a stranger.

Below are pics of my boys. Brian sporting his PWNA shirt in 2004 and Kyle when he was a bit younger.
