Urgent!!

Been having burner trouble the last couple of nights, works for a couple of hours then stops - fuel, air and spark are all good. The reset switch on the burner motor has been going off so I checked the generator belt (Hydrotek SC30009KAF) and it is slack, so I'm guessing that I am not getting enough current due to lack of tension on the belt and possible slipping.

The belt part no is KSA33 5L240 with Hydrotek - I tried searching the web for a local supplier of this belt as I need the burner working for tonight.

I noticed that there are 5L240 belts on the net, are these the same thing as what is on the pressure washer? Anyone know of any box store type places that would sell this part?

Thanks for any advice/input!!

Steven,

I called you personally instead of posting online. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you can get back to work ASAP.

For those that don't know, yes, that is a standard number.

Steven, I would try NAPA auto parts and see if they can match up a belt with your old belt. That's the only place I can think of to get a belt on a Saturday. Good luck!

Ditto on the Nappa, I have always found belts there that fit. Just make sure you bring them in to size them up. Steve this is exactly why I only run gear drive.

Steve, you may only have dirty probes, if you pull the whole assembly out you can clean it real easy.

5L are not as common as 4L, I got about a dozen 4L240 in the truck. Check with a local lawnmower repair guy. He should have a wall full of belts to keep you happy. Hope it helps (if that's the issue):dirol:

thanks guys...

I think I may have a couple of issues with the burner... I got a belt from Advanced Auto Parts, it is a 24" belt which was the closest match to the old belt, but I still don't think there is enough tension on the belt, there is at least 1.5" of play. I tested the generator with the 2 500 watt lights I have mounted on the flatbed, they are glowing orange and not bright white. Could this new belt be slipping and not cranking the generator enough?

I also checked the fuel pump - I opened the small screw in drain cap and ran the burner, it pumped diesel out there. I then unscrewed the copper feed line to the burner after the fuel valve - no diesel coming out there. Is the fuel valve the 'fuel solenoid valve' that I've read about?

Nick, I've not had any problems with the gear drive I got in Tampa, followed the advice of you, Greg and Kory. I took the whole burner unit apart and cleaned the fuel nozzle and probes... still no luck. The light does not come on now when I run burner with trigger open, although I'm still hearing a click when trigger is released.

I think I need to get the correct belt to ensure that the generator is working correctly to power 115V burner motor and replace the fuel solenoid... any other ideas? I am not technically minded in the least, although it's been a learning experience today, to say the least.... would appreciate anyone's advice as to what steps to take.

Thanks!!! :help:

Get a 5L240 belt from a hardware store (I know our local ACE carries them). You'll need to loosen the generator and the tensioner bolt and move it toward the engine to install it (2 - 9/16" headed bolts and 1 - 11/16" headed bolt on the under the generator opposite the belt end), then use the tensioner bolt to tighten the belt. You want 1/4" deflection when you press down on the center of the belt.

thanks guys...

Steven,

No doubt you have too much play in the belt. I would try Napa to see if they can get you a closer match

I always forget ACE carries belts..:slap:

hey steven if you dont get it fixed by tomorrow that offer on using my truck so you can get done is still there i dont know what time i will be back but if you need the truck to use call me and i will let my wife know you are going to come by just let me know

lonnie

thank you so much for the offer, really appreciate it buddy... but I got it working this morning (for now, haha!)

Russ, I had to move the vertical male threaded bolt from the tensioner bolt from the hole in the L-shaped bracket to the inside edge of the bracket to give me space to actually tighten it (so any lateral movement is now only stopped by the bold under the generator and the bolt in the L-shaped bracket nearest the pump). The positioning of everything just wouldn't allow me to adequately adjust tensioner bold to allow correct belt tension.

Perhaps I need to go to a smaller belt than a 24" belt to have it all mounted correctly.

I can at least get a couple of jobs done with it as is, then try a smaller belt during the week.

Thanks for the input guys, this is why I like PWI - questions get answered and problems get solved quickly!!! :idea2:

Yea pick up a 5L220 and a 5L230 one of them should do you well.

The belts at my ace weren't steel belted and weren't rated for as much hp so look out for that.

Great that you got it working Steven, and good info as well guys, I have heard others complain about the space issues on the Hydroteks.

Lonnie that is a generous offer.

I fear the day I have burner issues, I may already have some problems, smoke coming from the insulation where the inlet water line enters the coil wrap and possibly fuel drips. The stack burns clean however, I will have to take the assembly out to see if there is an obstruction in the path of the fuel spray.

... knew it was too good to be true, another burner problem!! :banghead:

After about 2 hours of washing last night the burner started blowing out black smoke, small flames and was making a low 'grumble' noise when trigger was open. When trigger was closed there was still a little bit of lighter colored smoke coming out of the vent.

A week or so ago the burner did this for a couple of minutes, but cleared up quickly. Although, I remember a strong diesel smell when it happened as though it was getting too much... could this be the problem, too much diesel being injected to the burner nozzle? I thought that perhaps it is spraying diesel onto the insulation and this is causing the black smoke and flames?

There is a distinct click when trigger opens and closes, so I think the solenoid is working fine.

Anyone got any ideas, I turned burner on this morning and although there was a bit of smoke, there was no low 'grumble' or flames. There is some soot on the coil that I saw when I had it apart on Saturday, could this be causing problems.

I do have concerns about the low 'grumble' noise as it doesn't sound too health at all. The sound is different from the regular burner flame noise.

Thanks again for any input.

your coil may be sooted up and need to be cleaned and possibly rewrapped.
