Can you put car tires on a trailer? I know my rig doesn't weigh more that 3k pounds which is what most cars weigh. I just figure there is more tread on them and they will last longer?

DJ, it's not necessarily the tread that you should be concerned about but the ply rating. Most cars have a low ply rating for a smoother ride, whereas trailer tires have a higher one/stiffer side walls. I prefer bias-ply over radial, but that is just personal preferece. Never mis- match the two.

I have always bought 8 and 10 ply radial trailer tires for trailer service only, in my oponion they are safer and after all that is my job riding around on them.

Russ, I agree on the 8 or 10 ply. I like the bias-ply because I guess I am just old school from driving fire trucks over the years.

Trey is right a good set that will last will be around 100 bucks a piece , well that actually depends on size too, ours are 16 inch so they are a tad bit more

radial tires here. we went through way to many over the 'cheap' tires.

on my dump trailer i run 235/75/16 load range E (10 ply) truck tires and have not once had any issues and that trailer is regularly weighing 20,000lbs ive got 22,000 city miles and they look brand new

Stick with the trailer tires. As said above, they have a stiffer sidewall. I just paid $450 for 4 mounted on 15" rims.

I would use trailer tires like they said but if your in a bind go with the car tires. With no more than 3k on the trailer it should be fine.

Yeah, if I was towing the trailers I would buy good ones. Employees just knock them off the rim anyways.
