Tips on tips?

I have seen posts recommending using different sized tips to regulate pressure - rather than adjusting the unloader. As I understand it, lowering the pressure also lowers the flow.

Can anyone tell me which tips to use? I have a 4gpm/4000 psi machine. I would be interested in having 4gpm/2500-or-so psi and 4gpm/1200 or-so-psi. Thanks.

Hi John,

From what I understand that you can lower your p.s.i with the nozzle and your gallons per min. would stay the same...

What you would need for 2500 p.s.i would be a 5

for the 1200 p.s.i you would need a 7.5...

Gallons per min would stay the same...

I think Delco has a nozzle chart, Maybe somebody will paste a nozzle chart for a download for you... I would do it, but I dont know how...

John, What I had forgot to mention is I would not adjust the unloader at all, At least I do not, But I would have it unload about a second or two after you release the wand and would leave it there... I hope this helps..

John, theoritically, as you drop pressure (increase orifice size) your flow rate should stay the same, or increase very slightly. If you put a valve on the bottom of a drum and open it "a little" the flow will be less than if you open the valve "a lot". So as you reduce the pressure drop (increase orifice size) your flow will increase until you reach the max put out by the pump.

Similarly, your pressure will increase as you increase the flow rate through the same orifice.

Thanks everyone. I guess I never thought about using the chart for anything other than selecting the proper tip for my gpm/psi. It never ocured to me to use it to adjust gpm/psi.

While looking for a chart, I came across a site that has one. I'll post the link here for anyone else that needs one. I've never heard of this company, though they are very local to me.

Mark, thanks for posting the chart, I couldn't cut and paste the one I found. The chart you've posted is similar to others I've seen, but could not figure out. I see that 4000 psi/4 gpm = #4, but the chart I posted the link to made it a little clearer with the way they have it layed out and marked.

they sell pw's by lpg (litres)..does anyone know where thier is a conversion chart is for lpm to gpm....

cheers paul.
