Tanks

I am not a fan of the used totes, thought I know a lot of guys on here use them. I just don't think that they are strong enough for day in, day out usage. I use tanks made by Norwesco. I have had one split in 24 years. Granted, they are a lot more expensive then used totes, but just one lost job more then makes up for the cost of the better tanks.

I'm setting up a new truck and one of my trucks has 1000 gallons for clean water and 500 for reclaim. I also have some trucks set up with 500 clean and 250 reclaim. We just fleet wash and all of our large accounts 75-140 pieces have water available. I just don't think I need to carry a 1000 of clean water around. I was just wondering everybody's thoughts

Not a fan either. We use the Norwesco tanks 525 gals, probably don't need them that big but the extra volume comes in handy.

I have a 275 in one truck and a designated trailer that can hold 1000 gal. I guess it just depends on what your doing and how much you actually recover. For ground pickup figure 20-40% depending on how far you are from the generation point. For instant recovery figure 80-90% recovery. Then you will be able to properly size for your needs if you cannot filter and discharge on site.

I run 1035 gal tanks on both trucks and a 550 on my trailer. We also use 100 gal chem tanks on all 3.

I understand what your saying Scott. This year coming will be our first full year in business. Trying to keep start up cost down. I feel like these tanks are probably the only item to go cheap on. Hopefully we don't have any problems with them.

They are plenty strong enough. If it has the bout 4" tall stands on the bottom that are just screwed to the main frame, take those off and sit it flat on the trailer and will las for years. We have riveted painted alum. To the sides to make em look nicer on open trailers. Also gives a place to put your lettering. I have them on all 3 of our rigs as they were free when I got them lol

karen black 021.0.jpgYou are paying for the thickness not the volume (like gpm vs. psi). I had a chemical tanks bust a leak from the trailer's vibrations. I know the question is (size) volume, but quality is always a consideration. If you go with used or free tanks you may consider a cushion to prevent leaks from the vibration of thin plastic on metal. I have not had any issues since adding a buffer to my "free tanks". This picture shows a chem tank but the big square ones aren't much thicker.

Do you use a pump or gravity enough to feed your pumps? I have four Cat 66GX35GI1, 4000PSI, 3.5 GPM Pumps.

I am new to the business, but my pump is 4000/7gpm, I use a tote as a buffer tank with no problem. I did put my tank up on a pallet so the outlet is about the same height as my pump inlet. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361279297.415202.jpg

You have water available on site go with a smaller draw tank and a good size reclaim. With a 3500 or 350 you could put a water tank/pressure wash setup in the back and have a trailer with the reclaim tank and setup. You can go bigger if you want, just remember as you go bigger fuel bills get higher and other expenses can add up.

My tanks, 1500 US G, and 600 US G, since I don't need reclaim yet they both are clean water. I don't have access to water on sites and on many jobs have to spend the day without the option of filling up.

I do have a small truck for the small jobs, one 300 g tank no reclaim again as I don't need it. I am going to build a trailer with another 800-900 gallon tank for the pickup to pull eventually so I can do more jobs with the pickup in the spring/summer/fall.
