Surging Honda GX390 problem

I suspect this to be a carburator problem but it does not always occur except when I need it at a customer's house.

The symptoms also vary.

One time I started the engine at high rpm. The engine surged and everntually died. After playing with it I found that if I turned the throttle down below hal way it would run.

I did not notice anything abnormal when I rebuilt the carburator.

Another time it would not start.

Another time i ran fine...

I would try to clean out the jets

I'd post it under Russ Johnson's professor area and get an answer from someone that deals with this on a daily basis. Or call him.

Thanks for all of the ideas. I too think that it is a carburator issue. Thank God I have a backup power washer mounted on my trailer that I have used all week because I have been too busy to fix the bad carb. I appreciate the link to the carbs at Water Cannon. They are the cheapest distributor I have found. I will keep everyone abreast of what happens after I try to fix it tomorrow. Once again Thanks. Hope to see you at the Florida Round Table July 30 - 31.

I would check the jet under the bolt that holds the bowl in.. use a good ole flathead and unscrew it n clean it out.. that always makes em barely run!
