non certified does not = cheap.
To be honest...I'm not sure which will be more entertaining, the coming Org Certification War or the next season of Breaking Bad.
I don't get the certification problem. It's a private certification. There's no requirement for it to work.
As long as there is breath in my lungs I will fight anyone who ever tries to advance certification to government requirements. I think I have a proven track record of that in my constant fight with the PWNA and Robert Hinderliter with his BMP's that specify that reclaim be used anytime we use hot water.
That is why I am working hard with the UAMCC. Sure, some d#ckhead can come along in the future and change the direction of the UAMCC. But not if we stick together as a membership and make sure that our goal remains united. That goal being to educate contractors on how to use standards that are safe and effective, while educating the customer on the need for our service overall.
The certification just means that you are educated in how to use the set of standards adopted by the UaMCC.
I have about 10 fully SONITX certified contractors who have been taught OUR methods of operation from bidding to cleaning to billing. Those contractors are educated on how to complete the work OUR way and are expected to do so if they use our name to get or service accounts.
It's like when you see an HVAC truck with a YORK logo on it. That company isn't YORK, but they are certified to work on YORK equipment because they have taken the training to do so and been tested and passed and YORK is confident enough in them to put their logo on the truck.
It's the same with the UAMCC. The UAMCC is adopting standards based on the experience of contractors who have been successful in business for a while.
If you agree with those standards and pass the test you will be UAMCC certified.
Does that mean every other contractor instantly sucks????? No. It simply means you have agreed to adopt a set of standards and work under the parameters of those standards to the best of your ability.
I'm sure the UAMCC will provide information to give to customers that will try to convince them that a contractor who has been certified can be trusted to have the knowledge of how to do the work properly. This isn't "LICENSING" it's the free market at work.
