roof rig question

i have a hypro 6500 with a 50 gal and a 100 gal tank. does anyone know why this wouldn't make a good roof set-up. it has a 5hp gas engine pushing it. i can get from 35 to several hundred psi and up to about 9 gpm. i thought i'd just see if anyone had ever used one for that aplication. i really want to try doing some roofs, i just want to know if i have a usable pump.

We find that that type of pump/engine may run for a while but there seems to be a problem, eventually, between pump and the engine. The Hypro has fiberglass mixed in with the polypro. The fiberglass doesn't hold up the the corrosive nature of SH.

Those pumps are primarily used in the Agricultural Industry. Check out Ag Supply stores and you will find them on sale there.

I asked Hypro about changing out the buna seals for viton because the upgrade would cost under a dollar. My rep responded that the buna should be fine! To my knowledge, viton has an excellent rating for SH and buna has a good rating. The extra pennies at the manufacturing level could go a long way to improve customer satisfaction.

mine has buna seal i'm sure. it couple to the gearbox with a lovejoy coupling so i shouldn't have any problem with chemical geting into the gearbox. i guess i coulld get a couple of extra seals in case i have trouble. it's already paid for so even if i do have trouble and have to change seals i'll be money ahead. thanks for the info.

Pressure Washer Products will not sell them for the roof cleaning industry due to the rate of failure. You can find them at Agricultural Supply Stores. For less money, you can go with an air diaphragm system and have a pump that has a warranty for 5 years. (ALL-FLO) They designed the pump for the industry.

Most of the guys running the air diaphragm pumps run the 10+ cfm air compressors so the pump will work correctly.

lori's right on. mine was made to pump insecticide. one problem i might have, is that it has an unloader that returns to the tank. even though it returns to the bottom of the tank, i might have too much foaming. it never overheats though. it's alway returning. i'll just have to see how it works.

Give it a try and see how long it lasts, you might get a few minutes or a few hours out of it.

If you heal a loud squealing sound then that is the outer bearing seal going out and soon it will be locking up and biting the dust.

Chris you talking about large compressors then two air tanks gas powered compressore.

The one that a lot of the guys use is the Rigid from Home Depot, it has 2 tanks with the gas engine and handles like on a wheelbarrow.

That air compressor makes a lot of cfm's and is perfect for the roof cleaning air diaphragm pumps.

It is that transfer of vibration.
