roof cleaning, how to measure

If you don't want to or can't walk it, 99% of asphalt/fiberglass shingle roofs you can count rows of shingles they are usually a 5" exposure. Then each tab horizontally is 12". Or use a roof calculator. I never measure a roof. Just look at it and give them a price.

1.25 x sq footage of house.....

So for a 2500 sq.ft. house you charge $3125

Then you multiply it by the price per foot you determine. We use .15 for shingle and .20 for tile. So a 2500 sqft would be 1.25 x 2500 x .15 = $468.75

Makes better sense now. Thanks;)

can anyone tell me how to measure fairly accurately a roof from gutters to ridge. do you use a pole measure or what? thanks mark

Go to the property appraisers web site for the county your home is located, put in the address and or the name of your potential client, and it will pull up all of the homes info.

This info will Include sq ft under air and sq ft of garage, add the 2 together then get your total sq ft x how much you are charging. I add 10% if there is a steep pitch.

You can safley get .15 a sq ft and more depending on difficulty of job, try not to make it so hard on yourself ,this may not be the most exact way but the amount of money you will save bidding over the phone and not burning up your fuel will make up the difference in price. You can even go on google earth and check out the type of roof and pitch. hope this helps.

Hey Nick, Your giving away all my secrets! :D
Actually thats exactly the way I've been doing mine. If they call while I'm home I look it up while I'm on the phone with them. The extra 10% is a good idea for the degree of difficulty Nick. I like that! If we bid the same jobs though I'm only gonna add 9%....LOL :)

We add at least 20% for the lowest pitch roofs, and a max of 40% for the A-Frames.

On another note, who uses the entire square footage of the house, versus the "footprint" of the home, and how do you explain it.

(FYI: I use the entire square footage, and just tell them that it is more of a hassle and more dangerous to climb on a 2 story than a 1 story.)
