Chris, which respirators do you recommend? I use the same ones Russ does from Home Depot. Are those good? They help a lot, but I still get headaches at the end of the day if I have cleaned more than one roof.

I use one with an acid/gas cartridge and a pre filter.
I can't recall the name at the monent, maybe 3M ?
The key is to use one rated for GAS.
Roof cleaners battle both Gas and Atomized Droplets.
The pre filter stops the droplets, and the cartridge collects the gas.
I find cartridges last much longer wuith the pre fikters

mine are from home depot and stste that they work for clorine gas but the negative is they are not guaranteed with any facial hair because they wont seal

It's March and I haven't looked for it yet, about what I thought. I also thought I would never fall off a roof, proved myself wrong on that the other day. I actually had to jump off so I could control my fall. My groundman watched the whole thing, he said it looked like I was on ice. Thank God I found a nice place to land and roll safely. Got right back up and damn near did it again, but we finished and lived to wash again

Caustic isnt to bad till it hits grease and you get that ammonia smell.. It jumps up and kicks you right in the lungs. What is sad is I have gotten used to it . It actually doesn't bother me anymore.. This i figure is a bad thing. I might have to start wearing one .... I just don't want look like Darth Vader or anything.. i use it and its pretty tough on the lungs when it hits the open air too

Mix a little potasium hydroxide in and it gets tougher.

DJ, Don't know if you already got one but I just got this one from HD. It was around $30.00 It works real well. Can't even smell any of the mix and it fits good.
My other one had been left on the trailer when not in use and only lasted 7 months. This one stays in the truck! Should last awile.

Does anyone use full face mask or are all using the half? That first roof I did awhile back did not have any protection, did not have trouble with breathing per say but it really seemed to mess up my eyes for a couple of weeks after as I did not have eye protection either.Not sure if anyone has experienced that.DH

We have the half mask ones. Then we wear a clear plastic face shield over that too...at least I do. I almost always wear a full face shield instead of safety glasses, I hate stuff flying in my face. I wear a full rainsuit and hat most of the time too.
