I am reviewing my pressure washer safety systems and devices, and had the following idea below. So that this thread can be somewhat organized and benefit/inform all, please follow the directions.



Below is a list of topics that could be discuss (feel free to suggest/add more), to offer a better understanding and safer operation of our pressure washing systems. Every time that someone responds with a new post, please type the topic (particular aspect of PW System Safety) in the post title area so readers would know immediately what topic you are commenting on.

We can suggest required parts and part #'s and links to manufacturers websites, cycle life/recommended change time (if applicable), our questions and experiences with particular products, etc. etc.

The Tiny Tach is a great device to let you know what speed your motor is outputting and it functions as an hour meter. Relatively inexpensive, but could help you determine if engine speed drop off was the root cause behind your pump not outputting its designed output.

Pump Over Pressurization Protection

A device that most manufacturers put on there units today, but the first cold water unit I bought form an internet store 8 years ago did not have one.

This device is suppose to release the pressure on the pump head for any reason that the pump head pressure exceeds the devices set pressure.

but notice it is rated at 6 gpm, The manufacturer put this on my 8 gpm machine is this do the job adequately or a potential hazard?

That safety valve has saved me once already, well worth it. I think the 6 gal valve should be ok because it will still relieve the pressure. I have one on my pump head - before the unloader and one at the coil inlet

If the valve blows, should it be replaced?

On those pressure relief valves there is a hex fitting in the end which adjusts pressure. Is there a standard way to adjust them?

I believe they are adjustable and that is the method of adjustment, but you would have attain the valves relief pressure in order to set it.


I says that 6000psi is the max. Wonder what it comes from the factory set at?



I remember "workspeed" Jerry saying that there is a rubber ball in there that may not reseat properly after it blows.

The rv2/300 comes pressure relief certified from the factory, with a bigger price tag too.
