Pump shuts down

HydroTek with Cat 4.5 works perfect then pressure dies like you had let off the trigger. When you let it sit for a few seconds it works fine again but after a few it cuts again, then gets shorter and shorter time before it does it again. Almost seems like the pump is going into a protective mode for some reason. Could the belt be a little lose? Also Sounds like the engine is shuttering or viberating some but nothing bad but it's different. (16 horse Vangard) Any suggestions appriciated.

K7 unloader? How old is the machine? Have you checked the filter on the inlet and all hose clamps? Could be sucking air, starving for water, obstructed outlet (scale buildup, clogged injector, etc,), or the unloader is worn out. Did you check the belts? Are they tight?

WHAT HE SAID.

Sounds like it's starving for water or sucking air.

K7 and it doe's have a couple of O rings that drip. It's not starving for water. the pump was recently rebuilt. Is it shutting down in a protective mode? Do they do that and will it damage anything? Pressure is fine it just shuts down like you let off the trigger. Then you can go right back to it and it works fine but the freq of the shut downs shortens until I turn it off for a few minutes. I have been using it full trigger without letting up for several minutes doing vinyl fence. I"ll run through the lines in the morning I just have to finish this job and wanted to make sure It wasn't burning it up.

'Protective Mode' - Like an operational system on the space shuttle?

A pump is one simple piece of equipment, and something is amiss - I would want to find it in case there is something that could be damaged.

Clogged inlet screen
Something stuck in the unloader
something stuck in the gun

Maybe run it with just the hose and no gun and watch what happens to the water flow Good Luck Duck

probably what one of the other guys said. check the oil tho, sometimes if its low the machine will do that.

Start with the easy stuff, air leaks and inlet filters then move on. Like Nigel said, check the pump without an unloader to see if it a packing issue or the unloader. it may have some debris lodged in it or it is just worn out.

I am glad I purchased a head test tool a couple years ago Paul, great tool, next time I perform that test it would be a lot safer.
I recommend that if you do you own pump testing and repairs that you have one.

That is a major problem with a loose nut between the gun and the pump...lol...j/k

My first thought (for what that counts) is the unloader also.

I figured on the duell lance I opened it up a little droppiing the pressure a bit stopped the issue. I think it was over pressuring itself and cutting off. Was using a 15 tip..Would that be the unloader? It was running at about 2800 psi prior to that and was for extended periods. I just got this skid and it's my first one so I don't know much about them yet. Thanks for all the help.

Nicole whats the charge for checking for lose nuts between the gun and my pump? LOL,,,Thats something I really need to know....

Still sounds like the unloader.

Once I had one of the pulsar unloaders not unload with a 5CP cat, and the pump had no safety pop off,......... "cat sprang" to 4500psi and she was still going,......... the 13 "horses" in the Honda give up.

Moral of story is..............beware of cats....lol

Cats are dangerous animals, make sure that a leash is there and working ............"unloader"

it would help to have a loaded shut gun as backup in the event the leash breaks, aka "safety pop off"

What is a loaded shut gun? Also I noticed some bubbles in the bypass line going back into the tank,,,I think I'm going to take it down to Norther Tool and have them give it the once over and replace all the hose lines...
