Pricing help!

I am pretty new to this business. I have been doing the work for quite a while and now I'm in business for my self and need some help with pricing. What is the price per square foot I should be charging to stain new fences? These are all pressure treated southern yellow pine and range from board on board to board on baton to picket and any where from 4' to 6'. The last few we've done have been for super cheap just to get some work in and get the name out there.
I'm trying to figure out what my total cost to do the job is including travel and equipment as well as other overhead and profit. Right now i'm thinking anywhere from $0.45 to $0.60 per foot. Is this out of line with what you guys are doing/seeing?

Shaun you are the only one that will know what your total costs of doing business is. Since you are experienced in the field of work you have an idea how long a job takes and how much material you will need. It will take a few fence jobs and you will figure out if there profitable or if you need to increase your prices

You have already done some of them? If you have then you should have an idea how long it takes and how much material is used, and once you have that you SHOULD know how much to charge. let me ask. Do you know how much it cost you yearly to be a business ?

For stockade or any basic fencing I would charge a minimum of $.50/per sq. ft. and up, and then charge up to $1.00/per sq. ft. for board on board. I am never completely set on a price and take many factors into consideration. Will I need a generator, how close to neighbors and will it be a factor, how much masking near house and other structures, will I need an extra person or two for tarps when spraying, etc. As was mentioned above it really depends on each company to factor in costs when coming up with pricing. My pricing is only my guideline that may help you but to maximize your profits you need to examine your company costs.

Even if its a new fence you still need to clean it. For me material cost is often 50 percent of the job for a fence using a penetrating oil. For pressure treated privacy fencing six foot tall I'm generally $5 per linear foot per side
