optimal length for a pressure washer hose

I have never had a hose burst from getting ran over - until last night! I saw a flat spot in my 1/2" hose about 2 months ago, don't know how long it was there but sure enough - blamo - busted right there. If I can't stop it I try to make sure there's pressure in the hose - spray the gun since I have a flow unloader.

I dont always use alot of hose but I always have alot on my hose reels. I have been on jobsites and blew 300 ft of hose that would of shut me down without extra.
