Metal Roof

UnderPressure

New member
I have done some searching on this but haven't really found a good answer.. I have a another job later on this month for a Aluminum metal shop and the Metal roof of the shop is black and green with mold.. does anyone know a good mix to get that up... has anyone tried gutter grendade from bobs site?

Let me understand this correctly.

You have another job for later on this month that is a metal roof.
1. Since you mention that you have this job already, How did you price it if you don't know how to do the job or know what you are doing?

You keep mentioning that you search of stuff on how to learn but can't find anything.

Why don't you go and work with a company in your spare time and learn how to do things the right way instead of experimenting on customer's property, just common sense.

+10

As for the roof, if it is a bare metal, we do not do them. The 12.5% will discolor the metal. Only way I know of is to pressure wash it, but them you will either slip and fall or dent the crap out of the roof, or both.

I don't know any history you guys might have with Destin from any other boards, but I've bid on jobs before that I didn't know anything about and priced it wrong before when I first started.

Once I bid an entire building sight-unseen for changing filters in the ceiling. I was too uneducated at the time to realize that there was a good possibility those filters were above the ceiling panels over executives' desks and in some cases there was only 2-3 inches to pull out a 25 inch filter!

My price was 1/2 that of my competitor because I was stupid. I lost the bid because I looked like an idiot bidding so low. I'll never forget that.

But that's the kind of thing you learn when you are just starting.

Even today, if I was presented with the opportunity to make what I thought was a fair price for something I had never done before I would take it. I'd research it, make a lot of phone calls till, by the time I got to the job I'd at least to a decent job for the customer. (It would probably take me forever but I'd do it.)

Pressure washing isn't rocket science. If I knew the answers I'd help him out. But I just get roofs dirty, I don't clean them. :D:D

See what I mean Ron? You might want to repost my post!
Give me a call Destin. I will help you out all I can.

Tony, this guy is not a pressure washer. He has been on other boards basically just trying to get guys to talk to him. I guess I got sucked in also. Just another nut job. Gonna be in Vegas next week, I'll try to give you a call.

Give me a call anytime. :)

Al, this guy is not someone actually looking for guidance. He is just here messing with everyone. I help people all the time and my phone rings almost every day from people all over the country asking for advice.

maybe he's looking for answers like the rest of us without all the sarcasm....I suggested to Destin to come here after his last experience on a different board...I told him pwi was......." way more professional "and they would not allow the ganging up here.

to be clear.... I learn something everytime somone ask a question and people like :chris, ron ,russ, larry, tony, jim, scott davis and even you fireman........

I don't go to ps state so I only know him from only what he has posted.
I was told growing up " there was no such thing as a stupid question."
I have seen it happen before here, people make judgments on what someone wrote not knowing the background of the person or bother to get to know the person who wrote it.
Everyone keeps telling him to read....its in here. Anytime a topic is brought up it gives another person a chance to answer it, if you don't want to thats fine, it might prompt someone who don't post a lot to reply with there prospective on the subject.

As you can tell from my last posts, I have about as much experience roof washing as he does washing homes!!
And I hate to say it but the way its looking, when I wash my first roof will probably be without any experience!!

They are some people I know that are going to stop posting on PWI because of the bashing they get from others, I would much rather read less of the bashing.

People must have edited posts... already.

Some guys just have smart azz answers while others help.

If you allow the few to run you off then you loose.

This is a community we all work together to solve the problems.

Maybe you should be a staff member Al an change that?

Let me know

I dont see that as bad advice, I wouldnt do it. But some here have done the labor for learning.

Is this the post thats upset you Al? Hit the report Button next time. You lucky I even seem this other than I have learned to check every Roof thread because they are trouble.

Dustin, buy a ticket to Florida if you really want help. www.nationalcleaningexpo.com

+10 on that one Ron, there is a lot of great into in the archives, just have to use that little search button and type some words in there and it is like MAGIC!!!!!! The threads and posts magically appear and will give you lots of great reading material. Way better than the local library.

I don't see that as bad advice either Ron. Otherwise I would have reported it.

Say you want to learn how to do something, it just shortens the learning curve a whole lot by learning from someone that is in that field.

You get to learn from their mistakes instead of making a ton of them on your own.

You get to save the heartache, embarrassment and anger with learning from someone that made those mistakes already so you don't have to.

You get to save a lot of money instead of experimenting until you get it right, buying extra or not-needed equipment or the wrong equipment, etc...

There is a huge benefit to learn from others, why re-invent the wheel if you don't have to?????

Al, there are guys in Florida or Alabama or probably closer to you that can show you the ropes I am sure.

Check out the Roof Cleaning Section and just check out some pictures and see who has done some roofs close to you and start the communication.

Florida will be great but I know that you have prior plans.

You can always go before or after the round table.

The florida guys will help you out I am sure.

You guys are missing my point??? Maybe its just me!!!

No Al, it's not just you, I have read the bashing of Destin myself and when confronted, they change their tune. It's not always easy or we don't always have the time to read the " library" . So what if a question gets asked 15 times. Read it, if you don't want to answer, move on and someone else will answer it that learned from another time it was asked.
I read the 15 page thread on the other site. This guy did come in very green and said so himself so naturally he will be asking questions. Destin, get insured 1st and foremost, it is much more reasonable than you think. PM me if you need help with that.
