Joined the local Chamber of Commerce

I finally gave in and joined the local Chamber of Commerce. I figured it would be a great networking opportunity, plus some good advertising, and possibly give us some credibility. How much luck have you all had with any chamber affiliation?

Thanks

BNI or BOMA...these are better for networking. Join your hospitality group that actually uses your service. These are way better assoiciations to join.

Good luck with it, not suggesting you did the wrong thing just let us know how it turns out.

Remember you have to put in what you get back. Remember that, good luck

Joined my local Chamber and I gotta tell you other than being able to say "and we are proud members of the Chamber of Commerce", or hosting an "After Hours" aka buy them all food and drinks, I have yet to find a real benefit to it. My area doesn't have any BOMA and the Condo Associations, don't want to waste meeting time on "cosmetic maintenance" talks. So over the winter it's gonna be hit the BOMA groups 60 miles away.

I have been a member for 2 years and I really enjoy it. I joined one of the leads groups within the Chamber. That is where most of the real leads get generated from. I have one good account over 2k per quarter for one days work I got from being there. My insurance is much cheaper now due to an insurance agent in my leads group. And I'm getting to actually wash the chamber building which will be a huge publicity thing once I get it done. It is what you make of it. The more active you are the more you will get out of it.

Exactly. Anyone who has the $$$ to pay, get's "accredited" . If a for profit scam that unfortunately some consumers have faith in.

There was a case here recently that an individual just was released from prison (for fraudulent schemes and embezzlement as a contractor) started a exterior maintenance company (landscaping, parking lot sweeping), and was on the news for being arrested. Looked into him and his new business venture, among other things he was a member of the BBB and Chamber of Commerce.

BOMA and BNI are hands down worth the investment.

Chamber of Commerce is as big a racket as the BBB. Avoid both.

How has this worked out for you? Have you gotten anything out of it.

Dead on ... my memeber ship dues are $80 a year for our chamber

I sit on the BOD and am the chairman for the membership benefits and marketing committees.

We have landed this work so far. And before you ask - the driving force of me landing this work was being a chamber member and being in the know.
I attend any where from 2 to 6 meetings a week. Networking is probably one of my best marketing outlets.

- $1800 print job
- $24,000 three year holiday lighting job
- $5,700 ytd worth of mowing
- around $2k worth of odd job work

If you are good with a crowd and have no problem making a sales pitch to a stranger you will reap huge rewards from a chamber. :smile2:
