Got a call from the Sherrif,s office. He told me he had a complaint about a pressure washer guy overcharging a customer. I thought to myself WTF! I always try to give good pricing and great service. He said it wasn't me. Some poor old lady paid $1,200 for a 1200 square foot housewash. He was there less than an hour. The Deputy was calling local pw companies to get an average price for a similar job. I told him I would charge around $120 plus expenses. He got similar quotes from others. The scumbag wasn't listed under Florida's business listing so he figures he was some random guy ripping people off. If they find him he will be charged with a felony. Just another moron making it harder for the rest of us trying to do it right.

Sorry to hear about that, that is a shame that people out there will do stuff like that.

Those people need to be caught and serve some serious time in jail for ripping off people.

Maybe he used scare tactics and lied to get her to pay that much, that price does not make any sense at all, that or maybe he threatened her?

Maybe told her some lies about the mold getting her sick or how her family would get sick or some other mis-information to scare her into getting it cleaned at that high price.

Come on Jim. Us Northerners are good peeps
Yah! What Charles said. I go to Florida in the winter for vacation!

Was his behavior unethical? Absolutely. Knowing what we know about the situation (which is very little), I cannot imagine how it would be illegal. What we know is that scumbag charged an elder person a price that many in the industry would say is too high. Charging someone an astronomical amout to do a job is not illegal. Receiving money for a service (no matter how little) then failing to perform service is illegal.

Unfortunatly for the customer , if they agreed to the price prior to the work , no matter how high here in maryland , there was no law broken . Is it ethical , no . Using the pretence that the high bid is a rip off or scam would make 1 out of 3 contractors a rip off . Here we have the md home improvement commission , they regulate contractors that fall under their guidelines , pressure washing is in a grey area as far as they are concerned. But as KGILL said collecting money and failing to preform the work is illegal , pricing very high is not . Thats how its treated here .

On a similar topic we got a cleaning contract for a national company we had been cleaning the locations as we where told we had already cleaned 7 locations and only had three more lcoations to clean when we pulled up to the 8th one to clean I noticed that the sidewalks and parking lot where wet. I went inside and talked to the store manager to see if they threw some water on them or what happened and to let them know that we where going to be cleaning the sidewalks she told me that a guy had just left before we got there come to find out he claims that he was from KY and had drove 4 hours to clean the sidewalks, the sidewalks are not big however the guy got there at 6:15 and got the manager to sign papers he sprayed the sidewalks off with a wand holding it about 2.5' away from the concrete then rinsed off the parking lot and had everything packed up and left at 7:00. The manager ask him to remove the gum, and he told her that he was not able to remove it.

I called the corporate office manager on his cell phone and told him what had happend I told him that they where very dirty with gum everywhere! We recleaned the sidewalks taking lots of photos, oh Yeah we even have the photo of the person that did the cleaning haha, the manager pulled up the video!

Everyone needs to get ready with the economy the way it is there are going to be a lot of scams going on that will hurt this industry!
